Paddling is the headline activity. Réserve faunique La Vérendrye has the largest canoe-camping offer in Québec, with more than 800 km of developed trails and nearly 20 lakefront circuits punctuated by 500 overnight campsites. Day-trippers can rent canoes or kayaks at the canoe-camping registration centre and paddle the reservoirs without committing to a multi-day circuit. Fishing is the other main draw. The main species in the La Vérendrye lakes are walleye and pike. In Papineau-Labelle, speckled trout, lake trout, splake, rainbow trout, landlocked salmon, bass, walleye, arctic char and pike are found in over 700 bodies of water, and gas motors up to 15 hp are allowed. The best window for a La Vérendrye canoe camping experience runs from mid-May to late September, and the registration centres are open daily during that period. Lac Joinville in Papineau-Labelle follows a similar window, opening in late May and closing in mid-September. Parc Leslie typically operates from mid-May to mid-October. Late May and June bring spring green-up, high water for paddling, and the heaviest black fly and mosquito pressure, so serious bug protection is essential. July and August deliver the warmest swimming and longest daylight, plus peak demand on serviced sites. September is the most comfortable month for RV travel, with cool nights, fewer bugs, and early fall colour across the maple and birch stands. Big game hunting begins in autumn inside the wildlife reserves, which can close certain sectors to general use. Winter effectively shuts the road-accessible campgrounds, and access roads are not maintained for trailers.

Sites inside the Sépaq reserves range from rustic to semi-serviced. La Vieille campground in the southern Outaouais sector has 65 campsites, 26 semi-serviced and 39 with three services, while the nearby Lac-Rapide campground has 86 campsites with one service (water). In Papineau-Labelle, campsites are all located on the edge of a lake and offer non-serviced or rustic sites with a fire pit and a picnic table. The Écho and Joinville campgrounds have sanitary blocks with toilets and sinks only, a drainage station and non-potable water points. GPS and navigation apps frequently contain errors on the forest roads, so drivers should follow the routing instructions provided by Sépaq instead. Cell coverage is patchy to non-existent inside both reserves. Parc Leslie offers a fuller commercial setup with showers, laundry, a store, and a beach.
