Campgrounds and RV parks near Lacolle, QC

The marquee day trip is normally Fort Lennox National Historic Site on Île aux Noix in the Richelieu River, reached by a short shuttle-boat crossing. Visitors should note that Parks Canada has suspended activities at Fort Lennox for the 2026 season due to humidity and air-quality issues in the historic buildings, with the closure allowing time for assessment and remedial work. Confirm the site's status before planning a visit. Fort Chambly National Historic Site, downstream on the Richelieu, remains a strong alternative for history-minded travellers. Parc Safari in nearby Hemmingford is a popular family option, and the Richelieu River and small lakes around the campgrounds support swimming, paddling and fishing. Montreal itself is well within reach for a day excursion, and the cycling network through the Montérégie farmland is extensive and gentle.

Lacolle has a short but reliable camping season tied to southern Quebec's humid continental climate. Most private campgrounds in the region run from mid-May through mid-September, with several opening around the Victoria Day long weekend in late May. June through August is peak season: warm days, long evenings, and the strongest demand for serviced sites, especially on weekends and during Quebec's construction holiday in late July. Bookings tighten quickly for July and August, so reserving well in advance is sensible. Spring shoulder weeks can be wet and buggy as snow melts and the Richelieu rises; black flies and mosquitoes are most active from late May into June. September brings cooler nights, thinner crowds, and good fall colour by late month, while October is largely past the private-campground season. Winter precipitation falls mostly as snow from mid-November to early April, and snow normally covers the ground from late November to mid-March, which closes nearly all area campgrounds.

Campgrounds around Lacolle are private, family-run, and oriented toward RVs and trailers rather than wilderness tenting. Expect a mix of full-service, partial-service and unserviced sites, on-site pools or lake beaches, playgrounds, and small camp stores. Roads are mostly flat and easy for towing, and Highway 15 connects the area directly to Montreal and the US border. Cell coverage is generally reliable. Pack screen-ready setups for late-spring black flies and mosquitoes, especially near wooded lots and standing water. Summer afternoons can bring thunderstorms, so plan outdoor activities for mornings when possible. French is the working language at most campgrounds, though English is widely understood in the Montérégie. Border-region campgrounds can be busy with cross-border traffic, so quiet hours and check-in times are worth confirming at booking.
