Campgrounds and RV parks near Saint-Alexis-des-Monts, QC

Paddling is the signature activity. With over 150 lakes both big and small, Mauricie is considered canoe country. Canoes, kayaks, tandem kayaks and SUP boards can be rented at the Shewenegan, Wapizagonke and Lac-Édouard picnic areas inside La Mauricie National Park, or reserved online. Fishing focuses on brook trout across most of Mastigouche, with lake trout, splake and landlocked salmon also present. Hikers can pick from short interpretive loops to the multi-day National Trail; the Six-Chutes and Falaise trails near Lac Saint-Bernard campground lead to lookouts and a waterfowl observation tower. La Mauricie adds a Parkway with lookouts over Wapizagonke Lake, beaches at every campground loop, gravel-bike routes, and ranger-led naturalist programs in summer and fall.

The camping season is short and clearly defined. Réserve faunique Mastigouche is open from May to October, and the Lac Saint-Bernard campground runs an extended season with nearly 100 serviced sites available until mid-October. In La Mauricie National Park, over 500 campsites are spread across three campgrounds, with the majority open seasonally from mid-May to mid-October. Summer is the peak. Snow can be expected from mid-December through March; busy summer dates include Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day weekend on June 24, Canada Day weekend on July 1, and Quebec's annual two-week construction holiday in late July to early August. Black flies and mosquitoes are heaviest from late May through June. Fall brings maple and birch colour, cool nights and quieter campgrounds. Hunters should note that big game hunting takes place in Mastigouche from mid-September into early October, with a designated hunt-free zone reserved for accommodation guests. Winter closes the road-access frontcountry campgrounds; only limited oTENTik and backcountry options remain in La Mauricie.

Expect wooded, semi-serviced sites rather than full-hookup resorts. In La Mauricie, the park's three campgrounds accommodate RV, motorhome and trailer camping with semi-serviced sites, and each campground has a sewage dump station, drinking water taps and a sanitary block with toilets and free showers. Mistagance has 91 campsites with 26 offering electric hookups, plus a playground, meal stop and mini convenience store. Wapizagonke is divided into six loops with 188 widely spaced sites, and each loop has beach access. Cell coverage drops fast once inside the parks, so download maps in advance. Firewood is sold on site at park wood yards. Leashed dogs are permitted at most campgrounds but cannot be left unattended, and only one pet per site is tolerated in La Mauricie.
