Campgrounds and RV parks near Saint-Roch-de-Richelieu, QC

The Richelieu River is the main draw. The Saint-Ours Canal National Historic Site, operated by Parks Canada just downstream, has picnic areas and a working lock where visitors can watch boats pass through. Cycling is strong: the Route Verte network follows the river through Contrecoeur and Sorel-Tracy. The Îles de Sorel archipelago at the river mouth offers wildlife cruises and the regional gibelotte fish stew in local restaurants. On-site, Camping Domaine Des Erables runs a waterslide, heated pools, kayak and pedal-boat rentals, and scheduled programming, which keeps families occupied without leaving the gate. Sorel-Tracy and Saint-Hyacinthe (closest to Camping Ste Madeleine) add grocery runs, restaurants, and farmers' markets.

The private campgrounds in this area run a typical Quebec season: late April through late October, with most amenities (pools, waterslides, animation staff) operating mainly from the Saint-Jean-Baptiste long weekend in late June through Labour Day. Camping Domaine Des Erables typically opens in late April and closes in late October. Camping Ste Madeleine opens in early May and closes in early to late October. Camping Alouette | Parkbridge opens in mid-April and closes in late October. July and August are peak: hot, humid, and fully booked, especially around the Quebec construction holiday in the last two weeks of July, when traveller sites can be impossible to find on short notice. June and September are quieter, cooler, and better for adults or shoulder-season RVers, though the river can still be high in early spring. October brings strong fall colour along the Richelieu but cold nights and reduced services. Winter camping is not offered at the listed properties; sites are closed and water systems drained from November through April.

These are family-resort campgrounds, not wilderness sites. Expect tightly spaced lots, gravel or paved pads, full or partial hookups (30-amp standard, 50-amp available at the larger Parkbridge resorts), Wi-Fi of variable quality, laundry, dump stations, and on-site convenience stores. Big rigs over 35 feet are accepted at Camping Domaine Des Erables and at Camping Alouette, which lists pull-through sites and a 90-foot maximum, but call ahead at the smaller properties to confirm. Quiet hours are enforced (typically 11 p.m.), campfires are permitted in fire rings, and pets are allowed on leash at most sites with restrictions on certain breeds and on rentals. Showers may be coin- or token-operated. French is the working language at the gate, though staff at the larger resorts handle English without issue.
