Campgrounds and RV parks near Sainte-Angèle-de-Prémont, QC

La Mauricie National Park is the main draw. The park covers 536 square kilometres of Canadian Shield forest and contains about 150 lakes, with hiking, canoeing, kayaking, road cycling, swimming, and fishing across the warm months and cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in winter. Day-use highlights include the Wapizagonke Lake basins, the Cascades area, and Waber Falls, which is reached by canoe and portage. A scenic Parkway connects the Saint-Mathieu-du-Parc and Saint-Jean-des-Piles sectors and gives RV travelers access to lookouts and picnic areas at Shewenegan, Lac Édouard, and Wapizagonke. Just west of the village, the Mastigouche Wildlife Reserve adds backcountry fishing and hiking, while Saint-Paulin offers a microbrewery, equestrian centre, and the Le Baluchon trail and spa complex.

The frontcountry camping season in La Mauricie National Park typically runs from mid-May through mid-October, with Mistagance Campground and the other Parks Canada loops following that window. Private campgrounds near Sainte-Angèle-de-Prémont follow a similar pattern, with most sites closing once freezing nights become routine in late October. Summer is peak season. Sites fill quickly around Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day on June 24, Canada Day on July 1, and the Quebec construction holiday spanning the last two weeks of July and the first week of August. Expect canoe traffic on Wapizagonke and at Waber Falls during those weeks. September brings cooler nights, fewer crowds, and strong maple and birch colour, often peaking in early October. After Thanksgiving weekend, most of the Parkway shuts down, including the Wapizagonke and Mistagance zones. The Saint-Jean-des-Piles entrance and the Rivière-à-la-Pêche service centre stay open through the winter for skiing, snowshoeing, and limited winter lodging, but standard RV camping is not practical once the service buildings close. Snow cover is reliable from mid-December into March.

Inside La Mauricie, frontcountry sites are semi-serviced. Mistagance Campground has 91 sites, including 26 with electricity that offer two independent outlets, a 120V 15/20 amp and a 120V 30 amp, plus service buildings with free toilets and showers, a sewage dumping station, fire pits, and picnic tables. Only electrical hookups are provided at the site itself, with water taps located throughout the loops. Firewood and ice are sold at the campground wood yard, and food storage rules apply because black bears and other wildlife are active across the park. Cell coverage is patchy inside the park and along forest roads, so download offline maps before arrival. Private campgrounds in the Saint-Paulin and Sainte-Angèle area generally offer more amenities for families, including grass sites and weekend activity programs.
