Campgrounds and RV parks near Sainte-Anne-de-Sorel, QC

The Sorel archipelago is the main draw. Guided sea kayak and Rabaska canoe excursions launch from the Chenal-du-Moine area and weave through the islands' channels, marshes, and maple swamps. The reserve hosts North America's largest heronry and is a key stopover for migratory birds, so binoculars are worth packing. Sightseeing cruises depart from Sorel-Tracy and circle the islands during the warm months. On land, families head to Parc régional des Grèves for hiking and forest trails, the Maison du marais for boardwalks and interpretation, and the Biophare museum in Sorel-Tracy for an indoor option on rainy days. Fishing, paddleboarding, cycling along Chemin du Chenal-du-Moine, and tasting the local gibelotte stew round out a typical visit.

Camping season in the Sorel-Tracy area is short. Most private campgrounds open in late April or early May and close by late October, with peak demand from late June through Labour Day. Camping Domaine Des Erables, the largest resort in the immediate area, typically runs from late April to late October, while smaller grounds nearby keep similar but slightly shorter calendars. Spring brings high water on the St. Lawrence, flooded marshes, and strong bird activity as migrants return; some low-lying island areas remain inaccessible until water drops in late May or June. Summer is warm and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms common in June and July. July and August are the busiest weeks for family campers and for guided island excursions. September and early October bring cooler nights, fewer mosquitoes, and strong fall colour through the maple swamps. Winter shuts most campgrounds; the region pivots to ice fishing villages on Lac Saint-Pierre and snowmobile and quad trails. RV travellers in shoulder season should confirm hookup availability and washroom access before arriving.

Sites in the area range from large family resorts with pools, playgrounds, and water modules to small, quiet grounds with mature trees and direct water access. Camping Domaine Des Erables, for example, is a large Parkbridge-operated resort in Saint-Roch-de-Richelieu with roughly 600 sites, a heated outdoor pool, water games, and organized recreation. Smaller grounds nearby tend to be quieter and more rustic. Expect French as the working language at most campgrounds, though English is widely understood in the tourism sector. Mosquitoes and biting flies are active near the marshes from late May through July, so bring repellent and screens. Cell coverage is reliable around Sorel-Tracy but can drop in the islands. Grocery stores, SAQ outlets, propane, and RV supplies are available in Sorel-Tracy, about 10 to 20 minutes from most area campgrounds.
