Campgrounds and RV parks near Trois-Rives, QC

La Mauricie National Park anchors most trip itineraries. Visitors can swim, paddle and fish on a chain of lakes inside the park, with boat and equipment rentals at the Shewenegan, Lac Edouard and Wapizagonke picnic areas. Hiking and biking trails connect the main camping loops, and ice and firewood are sold at the Mistagance, Wapizagonke and Rivière-à-la-Pêche wood yards. West of Trois-Rives, the Mastigouche Wildlife Reserve covers more than 1,500 km² and includes over 400 lakes, with canoe-camping circuits, brook and lake trout fishing, swimming at Lac Saint-Bernard's sandy shore, and hiking trails such as the Falaise and Six-Chutes routes. Canoe and kayak rentals are available at the Lac Saint-Bernard sector.

The practical camping season near Trois-Rives runs from May through mid-October, when most park campgrounds are open. Mastigouche Wildlife Reserve is managed by Sépaq and operates from May to October, with the Lac Saint-Bernard campground extended on its serviced sites until mid-October. La Mauricie National Park's semi-serviced campgrounds at Mistagance, Wapizagonke and Rivière-à-la-Pêche open seasonally and fill quickly on summer weekends. Late spring brings blackflies, particularly in June, which can be intense in wooded areas near rivers and streams; campgrounds further from water tend to be less affected. July and August are the warmest and busiest months, with reservations strongly recommended well in advance. September delivers cooler nights, fewer bugs and the start of fall colour through the Mauricie's maple and birch forests. By November most campgrounds have closed, and the region transitions into snowshoe and cross-country ski use inside La Mauricie National Park, where the Rivière-à-la-Pêche service centre stays open from December through March.

Sites inside La Mauricie National Park are semi-serviced rather than full hook-up. Riviere-a-la-peche Campground offers 222 sites including 98 with electricity (with both 15/20-amp and 30-amp outlets on independent supplies), kitchen shelters, sanitary blocks and free showers, plus a loop dedicated to oTENTik tents. Each park campground has a sewage dumping station. Private campgrounds in the surrounding area typically offer a mix of full-service and partial-service sites suitable for larger trailers and motorhomes. Inside Mastigouche, road access is via gravel forest roads from the Pins-Rouges registration centre north of Saint-Alexis-des-Monts; Sépaq recommends this entrance for tent-trailers, trailers and RVs heading to the Lac Saint-Bernard sector.
