Camping near Babbie, Alabama
Babbie is a small town in Covington County in south-central Alabama, positioned between Andalusia and Opp in the coastal-plain pine belt. The surrounding area is defined by working timberland, slow rivers, and a chain of impoundments on the Conecuh and Pea rivers, which anchor most of the region's RV camping.
The closest developed campground is Frank Jackson State Park, a 2,050-acre state park built around 1,000-acre Lake Frank Jackson just outside Opp. It offers 32 RV sites with water, electricity, sewer, and cable, plus 8 primitive tent sites along the water. Private options cluster around Gantt Lake and Point A Lake northwest of town, including Gantt Lake RV Park and Rentals, Cypress Landing RV Park, and Point A Park RV Park and Campground.
The Oaks Family RV Park and Campground rounds out the local supply. Together these parks make Babbie a practical base for fishing trips, Conecuh National Forest day trips, and stopovers between Montgomery and the Florida Panhandle beaches.
Things to do around Babbie
Fishing drives most trips. Lake Frank Jackson is stocked and managed for bass, bream, crappie, and catfish, and Gantt Lake covers roughly 2,700 acres of open water with strong populations of bass, redear sunfish, bluegill, catfish, and crappie. Boat ramps sit at Frank Jackson State Park and around the Gantt Lake shoreline near Gantt Lake RV Park and Rentals and Cypress Landing RV Park.
Beyond fishing, families use the pedestrian bridge and wetland viewing area at Frank Jackson State Park, walk the park's three-plus miles of trails, and swim at the lake beach. Kayaking, canoeing, and paddleboarding are popular on the calmer coves of Gantt Lake and Point A Lake.
Day trips reach Conecuh National Forest and the Open Pond Recreation Area south of Andalusia, the Boll Weevil Monument in Enterprise, and Gulf beaches at Destin and Fort Walton, roughly 75 miles south of Gantt Lake.

March through May brings warm days, cool nights, and dogwood and azalea bloom, while late September through early November delivers drier, milder weather after the summer storm pattern breaks. Reservations get tight around Easter, Memorial Day, and July 4 at Frank Jackson State Park.
Summer is hot and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms common and heat indices frequently in the triple digits. Tropical systems from the Gulf can push heavy rain and wind inland from June through November, so travelers should monitor National Hurricane Center advisories during those months.
Winter is mild and generally quiet. Freezing nights occur, and hard freezes are possible in January, but snow is essentially absent. Off-season campers benefit from open sites and active fishing at both Frank Jackson State Park and the Gantt Lake parks, most of which stay open year-round.
How to book campgrounds near Babbie
Frank Jackson State Park uses the Alabama State Parks reservation system at alapark.com. Out-of-state travelers can book up to 12 months in advance, and Alabama residents up to 13 months in advance through the Alabama Residents Advanced Reservation Window introduced in 2024. Private parks including Gantt Lake RV Park and Rentals, Cypress Landing RV Park, The Oaks Family RV Park and Campground, and Point A Park RV Park and Campground take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites.
