Campgrounds and RV parks near Brookwood, AL

Brookwood sits in Tuscaloosa County along I-20/I-59, about a half-hour east of Tuscaloosa and roughly 45 minutes southwest of Birmingham. The location puts RV travelers within easy reach of state parks, University of Alabama attractions, and Black Warrior River recreation, while still offering quiet, wooded campgrounds close to the interstate. Options in the area range from full-service commercial parks to state and university-run campgrounds. Bama RV Station and Coaches Corner RV Park serve travelers along the I-20/I-59 corridor, and Mount Olive RV Park works well as a quieter basecamp for exploring the region between Tuscaloosa and Birmingham. For campers who want more than a parking pad, Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park preserves a 19th-century iron-making complex with furnace ruins, hiking trails along Roupes Creek, and a working pioneer farm. Moundville Archaeological Park Univ of Alabama sits south of Tuscaloosa on the Black Warrior River and offers a small campground next to one of the most significant Mississippian mound sites in the Southeast.

Reservation rules vary by operator, so plan accordingly. Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park operates on a first-come, first-served basis, so sites are secured on arrival rather than reserved in advance. Sites can fill during Trade Days weekends, typically held on the third weekend of each month, and during the popular Halloween festival. Moundville Archaeological Park Univ of Alabama also does not take reservations. Campers must arrive at the Admissions Building before 3:45 pm to register for a site, and camping fees are separate from park admission. Commercial parks including Bama RV Station, Coaches Corner RV Park, and Mount Olive RV Park take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites rather than a central portal. For fall football weekends, book several weeks out; midweek stays outside peak periods are generally easy to arrange on shorter notice.
