Campgrounds and RV parks near Chickasaw, AL

The Mobile-Tensaw Delta is the primary outdoor draw. The Delta consists of approximately 20,323 acres of water and is the second-largest delta in the contiguous US, formed by the confluence of the Alabama and Tombigbee Rivers, with paddling, fishing, and wildlife viewing accessible from area launches. Meaher State Park is a key access point and includes a boat ramp, fishing pier, and a self-guided boardwalk over the delta wetlands. Closer to the campgrounds, Chickasabogue Park provides trail-based recreation, a disc golf course, sports fields, a boat launch, playground, and a beach on Chickasabogue Creek, which connects toward Mobile Bay. In-town options include the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park, historic downtown Mobile, and Dauphin Island beaches roughly an hour south. Meaher is also a stop on the Alabama Coastal Birding Trail, useful for travelers carrying binoculars.

Coastal Alabama has a humid subtropical climate with a long warm season and no true dry season. Mobile is one of the wettest cities in the contiguous United States, with roughly 67 inches of annual precipitation and summer as the wettest period. Afternoon thunderstorms are routine from June through August, and biting insects are most active then. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel, with warm days, cooler nights, and lower humidity than midsummer. Winter, from December to February, is mild overall, with typical daytime highs in the low 60s Fahrenheit and overnight lows that can approach the freezing point. Hard freezes are uncommon but possible, so freshwater lines should still be managed on cold nights. Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, with peak activity in August and September. Campers should monitor National Hurricane Center advisories and be prepared to reposition, as some Gulf-front parks close or evacuate ahead of named storms.

Sites near Chickasaw range from paved interstate-adjacent RV parks with full hookups to shaded state park loops. At Meaher, the campground has 61 RV sites, each paved, roughly 65 feet long, with 20, 30, and 50-amp electrical connections plus water and sewer hookups, a grill, and a picnic table. There is plenty of space between sites, and big-rig access is generally straightforward. Expect humidity, biting insects in warm months, and persistent Argentine or sugar ants at coastal sites. Meaher specifically advises campers to arrive prepared to keep ants out of the rig. Cell service is reliable across the Mobile metro area. Grocery, propane, dump stations, and RV service centers are all available within a short drive of Chickasaw, and I-65 and I-10 put most day-trip destinations within an hour.
