Campgrounds and RV parks near Cowarts, AL

Dothan supplies most of the day-trip options. Landmark Park is a living history site with an 1890s farm, farm animals, nature trails, and seasonal events tied to Wiregrass heritage. Water World, off Recreation Road in Dothan, runs a wave pool, tube and speed slides, and a kids area, typically operating weekends in late spring before shifting to daily summer hours. Adventureland Theme Park adds mini-golf, go-karts, bumper boats, and an arcade, and the Wiregrass Museum of Art anchors a downtown mural walk. On the water, the Chattahoochee River and its impoundments hold largemouth bass, crappie, channel catfish, and bream, and Omussee Creek Park provides boat ramps and picnic areas along the river.

The Cowarts area has a humid subtropical climate shaped by moist air from the Gulf of Mexico. Spring, from March through May, brings mild temperatures, longer daylight, and moderate rainfall, and is generally the most comfortable stretch for RV travel. May is the driest month at the Dothan station, making late spring a strong window for outdoor plans. Summer runs long and hot. July highs at Dothan average around 90°F, humidity peaks in August, and afternoon thunderstorms are frequent. RV renters should plan for full hookups with working air conditioning and watch the forecast for pop-up storms. Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November and peaks from August into October, and tropical systems tracking inland from the Gulf can bring heavy rain and wind to the Wiregrass. Fall cools gradually after September and pairs well with events like the National Peanut Festival in Dothan. Winter is mild but damp, with January lows around 42°F and only rare snowfall.

Terrain around Cowarts is flat to gently rolling, with a mix of open farmland, pine woods, and creek bottoms. Sites at the nearby private parks tend to be level pull-throughs or back-ins with 30/50-amp service, water, and sewer; amenities are basic and the vibe is quiet and rural rather than resort-style. Trees provide partial shade at some parks, useful during the long summer. Cell service is generally reliable across the major carriers along the US 84 and US 231 corridors, though coverage can drop at riverside sites like Omussee Creek. Grocery, fuel, and RV supply stops are concentrated in Dothan, a short drive west. Insects, including mosquitoes and gnats, are active from late spring through early fall, so screens and repellent are worth packing.
