Campgrounds and RV parks near Demopolis, AL

Demopolis sits at the confluence of the Black Warrior and Tombigbee Rivers in Alabama's Black Belt, and the surrounding waterway shapes most of the camping in the area. Demopolis Lake, the largest lake on the Black Warrior-Tombigbee Waterway, offers 10,000 acres of water to explore, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, state parks, and private RV parks all draw travelers to the region. The closest state-run option is Chickasaw State Park, a 520-acre public recreation area located on U.S. Route 43 about four miles north of Linden in Marengo County. North of the city, Moundville Archaeological Park Univ of Alabama pairs a campground with a museum and mound complex, while Roland Cooper State Park lies southeast in Wilcox County on Dannelly Reservoir near Camden. For travelers passing through on I-20/59, Meridian East / Toomsuba KOA Journey sits about an hour west across the Mississippi line, and Coaches Corner RV Park serves as an in-town option for shorter stays or as a base for exploring downtown Demopolis.

Booking channels vary by operator. Alabama State Parks uses a single online reservation portal covering parks that offer camping and lodging, and Roland Cooper State Park is bookable through that system. Chickasaw State Park runs under a partnership between Alabama State Parks and Marengo County, so reservations are made by calling the park office directly rather than through the standard online queue. Corps of Engineers sites on Demopolis Lake, including Foscue Creek, are booked through Recreation.gov. Private parks such as Meridian East / Toomsuba KOA Journey and Coaches Corner RV Park take reservations directly through their operators. At Moundville Archaeological Park Univ of Alabama, campers must arrive at the Admissions Building before 3:45 pm to register, and the park does not take late check-ins, so plan arrivals accordingly.
