Campgrounds and RV parks near Florala, AL

Lake Jackson is the primary local draw, with fishing, boating, swimming, and a lakeside bike and walking path through Florala's day-use area. Anglers target bass, bream, crappie, and catfish from the shoreline, piers, and boats. At Frank Jackson State Park near Opp, the park features picnic areas, lakefront RV camping with cable service, a modern bathhouse, a boardwalk leading to an island in the lake, and more than three miles of walking trails. A pedestrian bridge spanning Lake Frank Jackson connects the playground and campground areas and serves as a wetland wildlife viewing point. The lake is stocked and managed for freshwater fishing. Day trips reach the Conecuh National Forest to the north, the Gulf Coast beaches to the south, and the antique shops and small-town Main Streets of Florala, Andalusia, and Opp.

Florala has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and generally mild winters, and that pattern shapes the RV season. Fall through early spring is the most comfortable stretch for camping, and the area draws snowbirds looking to overwinter within roughly an hour of the Gulf. Summer brings heat, humidity, and near-daily afternoon thunderstorms. Water-based activities on Lake Jackson and Lake Frank Jackson peak during this stretch, and campground demand climbs around the Fourth of July and school-holiday weekends. Florala also hosts the 24th of June Celebration, billed as the oldest continuous Masonic day celebration in the world, held on the Saturday closest to June 24. The event has run without interruption since 1871 and fills local lodging. Hurricane season runs June through November, with peak activity late August through October. Travelers monitor National Hurricane Center forecasts because Gulf storms can force early departures. Winters are mild but wet, with occasional freezes and rare light snow.

Frank Jackson State Park has 40 single-family campsites along the shore of Lake Frank Jackson. Thirty-two are RV sites with water, electricity, sewer, and cable, three of which are ADA-accessible, and tent camping is allowed on RV sites at the regular rate. The remaining eight are primitive sites near the water. Campground amenities include drinking water, flush toilets, hot showers, and a dump station, along with a playground, camp store, boat ramp, and beach. Sites can accommodate rigs up to about 80 feet in length. Private parks in the area vary in layout but generally offer 30- and 50-amp service, picnic tables, and bathhouses. Expect biting insects in warmer months, and pack for humidity and afternoon rain.
