Campgrounds and RV parks near Gulf Shores, AL

Gulf Shores sits on Alabama's narrow barrier-island coast, with the Gulf of Mexico to the south and a chain of bays, lakes, and bayous to the north. The anchor for RV travelers is Gulf State Park, located about 1.5 miles from the white sand beaches of Alabama's coast, with 496 full-hookup campsites with paved pads plus a separate RV Resort area with premium amenities. Outside the state park, several privately operated RV parks cluster along Highway 59 and the side roads leading to the beach. Luxury RV Resort, Island Retreat RV Park, Doc's RV Park, South Port Campground, and Lazy Lake RV Park give renters a range of layouts, from tightly packed beach-adjacent lots to quieter lakeside settings a short drive inland. Gulf State Park handles its own reservations through the Alabama State Parks system rather than Recreation.gov. Reservations are available through Alabama State Parks and can be made one year to the date in advance; reservations for holiday and event weekends should be made at least 3 months in advance. Reservationists can be reached by phone at (251) 948-7275 from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Monthly snowbird stays use a separate process. All reservations for January, February and March will have to be made by phone, and a Monthly Booking Request Form opens on the Gulf State Park website in mid-November for the following winter season. Standard reservations must be cancelled 72 hours prior to the arrival date for a full refund, less the transaction fee, and no refund is given for reservations cancelled within 72 hours of the arrival date. Private parks such as Luxury RV Resort, Island Retreat RV Park, Doc's RV Park, South Port Campground, and Lazy Lake RV Park each manage their own bookings directly, and policies vary.
