Campgrounds and RV parks near Haleyville, AL

Haleyville sits in northwest Alabama's Winston County, within easy driving distance of the four Bear Creek Lakes: Cedar Creek, Little Bear, Upper Bear, and Big Bear reservoirs. In the late 1960s, the Tennessee Valley Authority began construction in Northwest Alabama on what is known as the Bear Creek Water Control Project, which is now controlled by the Bear Creek Development Authority, or BCDA. RV renters staying near Haleyville have access to a compact cluster of lakefront BCDA campgrounds. Elliott Branch is located on Little Bear Reservoir, and Williams Hollow is also located on Little Bear Reservoir. Piney Point is located on Big Bear Reservoir, and Slickrock is located on Cedar Creek Reservoir. Each site offers water and electric hookups, a central dump station, a bathhouse, and a boat ramp, with sand swim beaches at most locations. For travelers who want an alternative to lakeside public camping, Turkey Hill RV Park provides a more traditional private RV setup closer to town.

Bear Creek Lakes campsites and cabins at Williams Hollow, Piney Point, Elliott Branch, and Slick Rock are booked directly through the Bear Creek Development Authority by phone at (256) 332-4392, not through Recreation.gov or ReserveAmerica. Reservations can only be booked for the current calendar year, and bookings for the next year do not open until after the New Year's holiday. Bookings are taken in the order they are received, giving everyone an equal opportunity at the most requested dates, which are Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day. A BCDA user's permit is required for persons between the ages of 16 and 65 to take advantage of the lakes and related facilities, so plan to pick one up on arrival. Pavilions at Elliott Branch can also be reserved by calling the BCDA office at 256-332-4392. Private parks such as Turkey Hill RV Park take bookings independently, usually by phone or through their own websites.
