Campgrounds and RV parks near Jackson, AL

The Tombigbee River corridor drives most outdoor activity here. Fishing, boating, and kayaking are the main draws, with public launches at Saint Stephens Historical Park reaching both the river and a spring-fed quarry lake with a sandy swim beach. The park also has an 18-hole disc golf course, more than 15 miles of hiking and horseback trails, and active archaeological digs at the Old St. Stephens town site. Bladon Springs State Park centers on four historic mineral springs, with picnic pavilions, a playground, and short walking paths. Birders can work the Alabama Black Belt Birding Trail, and hunters use the nearby Choctaw National Wildlife Refuge. Mobile is about an hour south for shopping, restaurants, and rainy-day museum stops.

Spring and fall are the strongest RV seasons around Jackson. March through May brings mild days, blooming dogwoods, and manageable humidity, while October and November deliver cool nights, low bug pressure, and clear river conditions. These shoulder months are when Saint Stephens and Bladon Springs see the steadiest camper traffic. Summer is hot, humid, and stormy. Afternoon thunderstorms are frequent from June through August, and heat indices routinely climb into triple digits. Mosquitoes and horse flies are heavy along the Tombigbee, and campers consistently recommend strong repellent. Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November and can push tropical moisture inland from the Gulf, occasionally forcing park closures. Winters are short and generally mild but unpredictable. Freezing nights and cold rain do occur in January and February, and some smaller Alabama parks reduce services in the off-season. Snow is rare. Confirm operating status directly with a park before arriving in the colder months.

Sites in this region skew toward full hookups with 30 and 50-amp service, but amenities vary widely. Saint Stephens offers more than 40 RV sites with full hookups and can handle rigs up to 60 feet, though sites sit close together and mosquitoes are heavy in warm months. Autumn Lake features large pads long enough for big rigs plus a tow vehicle. Bladon Springs is rustic: about 10 sites with water, 30-amp electric, and sewer, restrooms but no shower house, and rigs up to roughly 35 feet. Self-contained rigs are the safest bet. Cell coverage is spotty in the more remote river bottoms. Bring bug spray, a water hose long enough for older pedestals, and expect a share of neighbors who are monthly or working campers rather than weekend tourists.
