Campgrounds near Kinsey, Alabama
Kinsey sits just north of Dothan in Houston County, Alabama, in the Wiregrass region of the southeast corner of the state. The town is roughly 20 minutes from the Georgia state line and about an hour from the Florida Panhandle, which makes it a practical basecamp for RV travelers combining stops across three states.
Most camping options are private RV parks within a short drive. Rosemont RV Park and Todd Farms RV Park sit closest to Kinsey itself, while A Okay RV Park lies just outside Dothan. For public-land camping, Omussee Creek RV Park operates as a Houston County park along the Chattahoochee River near Columbia, and Hidden Hollow RV Park adds another private full-hookup option in the area.
Expect flat, pine-shaded terrain, paved county roads, and easy highway access via US 231 and US 431. Nearly all developed sites in the region are pull-through or back-in with full hookups, and big rigs are generally accommodated.
Things to do near Kinsey
Dothan anchors the local attraction list. Landmark Park, Alabama's official agricultural museum, offers picnic areas, nature trails, and rotating events that work well for families. Water World of Dothan is a seasonal municipal water park useful on hot afternoons, and the Wiregrass region is widely known as a center of peanut production.
Outdoor recreation clusters along the Chattahoochee River. Omussee Creek Park has two boat ramps, hiking and nature trails, a volleyball court, softball fields, and productive birding, with species such as blue-gray gnatcatchers and American goldfinches frequently reported.
Day-trip range covers Ozark and Fort Novosel to the northwest, the Florida Caverns near Marianna to the southeast, and Panama City Beach roughly two hours south.

The Wiregrass climate is humid subtropical, so most private RV parks around Kinsey stay open year-round. Spring and fall are the strongest windows for camping: mild days, cool nights, and lower humidity make outdoor time comfortable, and October is often regarded as one of the most pleasant months for exploring the Dothan area.
Summer is hot and humid, with daytime highs regularly in the low 90s Fahrenheit, and afternoon thunderstorms are common. The Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November and peaks in September, and remnants of Gulf systems can bring heavy rain and wind this far inland. Riverside sites at Omussee Creek Park sit along the Chattahoochee and can be affected during high water, so checking river conditions before arrival is worthwhile.
Winters are mild but wet. December is one of the wettest months in Dothan, and hard freezes are rare but possible on the coldest January and February nights.
How to book
Private parks in the Kinsey and Dothan area, including Rosemont RV Park, Todd Farms RV Park, A Okay RV Park, and Hidden Hollow RV Park, are booked directly with each property by phone or through the park's own website. Third-party platforms such as Campendium, The Dyrt, and Hipcamp list availability but typically route reservations back to the owner.
Omussee Creek RV Park is operated by Houston County and does not use an online reservation system. Site inquiries are handled by phone through the county parks office at 334-696-4626.
For spring and fall stays, especially weekends tied to Fort Novosel events, the National Peanut Festival in early November, or Panama City Beach overflow, book several weeks ahead. Midweek availability is usually easier to find.
What to expect on site
Sites around Kinsey are typical of southeast Alabama: level gravel or grass pads, mature pine and hardwood shade, and 30 and 50 amp hookups at most private parks. A Okay RV Park is a family-owned property with easy access to Dothan a short drive away.
Omussee Creek Park is more rustic. It offers primitive tent camping and a limited number of RV hookup sites near the boat ramp, with a comfort station, picnic areas, and pavilions available for rent. Firearms and ATVs are not permitted inside the park, and the gate operates from dawn until dusk.
Cell coverage in the county parks along the river can be spotty, so travelers relying on a hotspot for work should confirm signal on arrival or bring a booster.
