Campgrounds near Leroy, Alabama
Leroy sits in Washington County along US Highway 43, on the west side of the Tombigbee River in southwest Alabama. The area is rural and heavily forested, with the closest developed camping clustered around river access points, small state and county parks, and private RV parks along the highway corridor.
The nearest option is Saint Stephens Historical Park, a short drive west of Leroy on the site of Alabama's territorial capital, with RV sites, cabins, and a 70-acre quarry lake. Lake Early RV Park and Autumn Lake RV Park serve travelers looking for a straightforward hookup site close to town. Bladon Springs State Park, about an hour north in Choctaw County, offers quiet wooded campsites near the historic mineral springs.
RVers willing to drive farther can reach Live Oak Landing on the Tensaw River, opening up access to the Mobile-Tensaw Delta. Most parks in the area are small, so calling ahead or booking online well in advance is standard practice.
Things to do near Leroy
Water and history drive most trips. Saint Stephens Historical Park has a large quarry lake with a sandy beach, a boat ramp to the Tombigbee River, and more than 15 miles of hiking and horseback trails, plus an 18-hole disc golf course and active archaeological digs at the old townsite. Birders find plenty to watch across the park's varied habitats.
Bladon Springs State Park is centered on four historic mineral springs and features shaded picnic pavilions, walking trails, a playground, and birding among tall pines. Anglers use Tombigbee River access points around Leroy for bass, catfish, and bream.
For day trips, Mobile is roughly an hour south, offering museums, restaurants, and access to the Mobile-Tensaw Delta for kayaking and wildlife viewing from Live Oak Landing.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel in southwest Alabama. Daytime highs are mild, humidity is lower than in summer, and the forested state parks show wildflowers in spring and color in late fall. Sites at Saint Stephens and Bladon Springs fill fastest on spring and fall weekends and around holidays, so book ahead.
Summers are hot and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms common and heat indices well into the triple digits. Mosquitoes and horse flies are notably active at riverside sites, so bring repellent and confirm any RV rental has working air conditioning.
Winters are mild but variable. Camping is possible year-round at most area parks, but occasional cold snaps and heavy rain can affect low-lying sites. Late summer and early fall fall within Gulf hurricane season, so check National Hurricane Center advisories before traveling to the region.
How to book a campsite
Reservation systems vary by park. Saint Stephens Historical Park takes reservations directly through the park office, with a mix of full-hookup, electric and water, and primitive sites plus cabins. Most Alabama State Parks that offer camping use the statewide reserve.alapark.com portal, but Bladon Springs is operated in partnership with Choctaw County and reservations are made by phone with the park manager.
Live Oak Landing, owned by Baldwin County, requires all reservations to be made online through the county parks website rather than by phone. Private parks such as Lake Early RV Park and Autumn Lake RV Park generally take direct bookings by phone or through their own sites.
For spring and fall weekends, aim to reserve several weeks out. Confirm rig length limits and hookup type when booking, since some sites cap at 35 feet.
What to expect on the ground
The Leroy area is rural. Grocery, fuel, and dining options exist in nearby Jackson and along US-43, but selection is limited and closes early, so stock up before arriving. Cell coverage varies by carrier and can drop inside state parks and along river bottoms.
Campground sites range from full-hookup pads suitable for larger rigs to primitive tent areas. Saint Stephens accommodates RVs up to 60 feet with electric, water, and sewer at most sites, plus restrooms, showers, and a dump station. Bladon Springs is quieter and more basic, suitable for smaller rigs, with the park open daily from 8 a.m. to sundown.
Expect biting insects near the water in warm months, occasional heavy downpours, and shaded, sometimes uneven pine-forest sites. Pack leveling blocks, bug spray, and a rain plan.

Pack a tie-out, a collapsible water bowl, and proof of vaccinations. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm your specific breed and size, most Leroy hosts are very accommodating.

Yes, RV delivery in Leroy is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if you are a first-time renter. Many Washington County hosts will drive the RV to your campsite, river access point, hunting lease, or driveway, level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Popular delivery spots include Bladon Springs State Park and Corps of Engineers campgrounds along the Tombigbee River. Just enter your destination address during booking to see delivery fees (usually based on mileage). Pro tip: delivery is a game-changer if you have never towed a trailer, you will skip the learning curve entirely.

Each listing shows the exact mileage policy and per-mile overage rate (typically $0.30 to $0.45) before you book. Pro tip: if you are planning a multi-stop Gulf Coast loop, filter specifically for unlimited-mileage rentals, you will save money and stress on the drive home up Highway 43.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Leroy%2C%20AlabamaWhere are the best campgrounds near Leroy, AL?
You've got several solid options within an easy drive. Bladon Springs State Park (about 20 miles north of Leroy) offers quiet, shaded sites with electric and water hookups around four historic mineral springs. Service Park, a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers campground on the Tombigbee River near Jackson, has waterfront RV sites with hookups and a boat launch. Lenoir Landing Campground, also Corps-managed on the river, is a hidden gem for anglers. Heading south, Meaher State Park on Mobile Bay (about 80 miles) gives you a coastal base. Pro tip: book Corps sites through Recreation.gov six months out, weekends in spring and fall fill up fast with Tombigbee fishing crowds.
recreation.gov/camping/gateways/2725When is the best time of year for an RV trip in Leroy?
Leroy sits in southwest Alabama's humid subtropical zone, so the sweet spot for RV camping in Leroy is mid-March through mid-May and again from late September through November. Spring days run a comfortable 70°F to 82°F with blooming dogwoods and azaleas, while fall brings crisp 60s and 70s and far fewer mosquitoes. Summer (June through August) is hot and humid with highs in the low 90s and frequent afternoon thunderstorms, so look for rentals with strong air conditioning and a generator. Winters are mild (highs in the upper 50s to 60s), making Leroy a great snowbird-friendly destination. Pro tip: visit in late October for cool nights, perfect campfires, and prime crappie fishing on the Tombigbee.
weather.gov/mob/I've never rented an RV before, will I know what to do?
You'll be in great hands. First time renting an RV in Leroy, Alabama is easier than most people expect because every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup, covering the generator, slide-outs, water system, propane, leveling, and dump procedures. You can also message your host anytime through the app during your trip if a question pops up. For extra comfort, choose a smaller Class C motorhome or a campervan rental in Leroy, they drive much more like a large truck than a big rig. Pro tip: do a slow practice loop on Highway 43 before heading out, and consider delivery so the host sets everything up at your site.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/rvsWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You are never stranded. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so if you get a flat on Highway 43, the battery dies at Bladon Springs, or the generator quits along the Tombigbee River, help is one phone call away. You will also have direct messaging with your host, who knows the RV inside and out and can usually walk you through quick fixes (like resetting the GFCI or restarting the inverter). RVezy support is available before, during, and after every trip. Pro tip: save the roadside number to your phone before you leave the driveway, and snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate for fast service.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Leroy RV rental across state lines or into Mexico?
Yes to interstate travel, no to Mexico. Most Leroy hosts are happy to let you cross into Mississippi, Florida, Louisiana, Georgia, and beyond. Popular routes include the 110-mile run to Gulf Shores, the 160-mile drive to New Orleans, and the scenic loop through the Florida Panhandle. Cross-border travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because protection coverage does not extend there. Travel into Canada may be possible with specific host approval, so message the owner before booking if that is your plan. Pro tip: a Leroy-to-Gulf Coast RV road trip via U.S. 43 to I-10 makes a perfect long-weekend escape.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I budget for?
Budgeting is straightforward. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 MPG, Class A coaches run 6 to 10 MPG, and a truck towing a travel trailer typically lands around 10 to 14 MPG. Gas prices in Washington County, Alabama tend to run slightly below the national average; most stations along U.S. 43 in Jackson and Thomasville post some of the cheapest fuel in the region. For a typical 300-mile weekend loop in a Class C, plan on roughly $90 to $130 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Jackson before heading toward Mobile or the coast, prices climb noticeably once you hit the I-10 corridor.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Leroy?
For the best sites, book early. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds along the Tombigbee River like Service Park and Lenoir Landing open reservations 6 months in advance through Recreation.gov, and prime weekend waterfront sites can disappear within minutes of release. Bladon Springs State Park and other Alabama State Parks take bookings through ReserveAmerica or the Alabama State Parks site up to 12 months out. For weekday stays or off-season trips (December through February), you can often roll in with just a few days' notice. Pro tip: set a Recreation.gov alert at the 6-month mark for spring fishing weekends, that's when the Tombigbee crappie bite is hottest and locals lock in their spots.
recreation.gov/What are local driving conditions like around Leroy?
Driving an RV around Leroy is refreshingly easy compared to big-city traffic. U.S. Highway 43, the main north-south corridor through town, is a wide, well-maintained four-lane with gentle grades, perfect for first-time motorhome drivers. Country roads off 43 can be narrow with soft shoulders and the occasional logging truck, so take it slow and watch for deer at dawn and dusk. Summer thunderstorms can roll in fast from the Gulf, so check the National Weather Service Mobile forecast before long drives. The biggest hazard? Slow tractors during planting and harvest season. Pro tip: avoid driving during heavy afternoon storms in July and August, and plan fuel stops in Jackson or Thomasville where pull-through pumps are easy.
algotraffic.com/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Leroy?
Most campgrounds in the Leroy area offer comfortable, well-equipped sites. Corps of Engineers parks like Service Park and Lenoir Landing provide 30/50-amp electric, water hookups, picnic tables, fire rings, hot showers, and clean dump stations, though full sewer hookups at the site are less common (you'll use the central dump on the way out). Bladon Springs State Park offers electric and water sites with shared bathhouses. Potable water fill stations are available at every Corps campground and at most truck stops along U.S. 43. Cell signal is generally solid on Verizon and AT&T near Leroy. Pro tip: top off fresh water before leaving the campground, rural Washington County has few RV-friendly fill spots between parks.

Most listings also include a generator for off-grid power, a TV, and many feature Wi-Fi hotspots or starlink. Travel trailers offer the same comforts minus the drive cab. Each listing shows exactly what's included plus what extras the host provides (bedding, kitchen kits, outdoor chairs). Pro tip: ask your host to include a starter kit, most Leroy hosts happily toss in linens, towels, and basic groceries for a small fee.
energy.gov/energysaver/recreational-vehiclesWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about for a Leroy RV rental?

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Leroy%2C%20AlabamaHow does payment and the security deposit work for a Leroy RV rental?
Payment is simple and secure. When you book your RV rental in Leroy, you pay through RVezy's encrypted checkout using a major credit or debit card, no cash or off-platform payments needed. Most hosts also require a refundable security deposit, which is pre-authorized (not charged) on your card a few days before pickup and released after the trip once the RV is returned in good condition. Deposit amounts vary by RV. To avoid any deposit issues, do a quick walkaround with your host at pickup and drop-off, snap photos, return the RV with a full fuel tank, and use the supplied dump station. Pro tip: keep all communication inside the RVezy app, it is your built-in record if any question comes up later.
