Camping near Loxley, Alabama
Loxley sits in south-central Baldwin County along U.S. Route 90, with Interstate 10 running through the northern end of town at Exit 44. The location puts RV travellers roughly 20 miles east of Mobile, about 39 miles west of Pensacola, and within a 30-minute drive of Gulf Shores. That central position makes it a common overnight or extended base for trips along the Alabama Gulf Coast.
Most overnight camping in the immediate area is at private RV parks rather than public campgrounds. Options include Hilltop RV Park, The Retreat RV and Campground on Styx River, Azalea Acres RV Park, Wilderness RV Park, and Styx River Resort. Sites tend to be full-hookup with pull-through access geared to travel trailers and Class A motorhomes.
For state park camping, the closest public options are Gulf State Park on the coast at Gulf Shores and Meaher State Park on the Mobile Bay causeway, both within an hour's drive.
Things to do near Loxley
The Styx River, on the east side of Loxley, is a regional draw for tubing and paddling, and campgrounds like The Retreat RV and Campground on Styx River and Styx River Resort sit along or near the water. Day trips south lead to Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, where Gulf State Park offers roughly two miles of beach, a fishing pier, freshwater Lake Shelby, and the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail network for biking and hiking.
Closer to base, families use Alligator Alley, OWA Parks and Resort in Foley, and the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park across Mobile Bay. Golf courses, Burris Farm Market, and Buc-ee's are all short drives from town.

Jeff was really easy to work with. As a first time renter on this app he walked me through all the steps and accessories needed to house my family that traveled from Utah.

How to book near Loxley
Private RV parks around Loxley, including Hilltop RV Park, Azalea Acres RV Park, Wilderness RV Park, Styx River Resort, and The Retreat RV and Campground on Styx River, generally take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites. Weekly and monthly rates are common, and snowbird sites for the November through March window often book out months in advance.
For Alabama State Parks, including Gulf State Park and Meaher State Park, nightly and weekly reservations are made online through the Alapark reservation portal. Reservations can be made up to one year in advance, with a 13-month window for Alabama residents. Gulf State Park handles monthly camping from November through March through a separate booking request form posted on November 15, rather than the standard online system.
What to expect on the ground
Terrain around Loxley is flat coastal plain with pine forest, sandy soils, and slow-moving rivers. Most private RV parks in the area offer full hookups, laundry, Wi-Fi, and pull-through sites suited to larger rigs. Cell coverage along the I-10 and Route 59 corridors is generally reliable.
Expect mosquitoes and biting flies from late spring through early fall, especially near the Styx River bottomlands. Alligators are present in coastal waterways and freshwater lakes, including Lake Shelby at Gulf State Park; posted rules on swimming and pet leashing should be followed.
Summer thunderstorms can be intense and produce localized flooding on secondary roads. During hurricane watches or warnings, coastal parks may close and inland private parks near Loxley sometimes host evacuees, so availability tightens quickly.

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Loxley, AL?
RV rental in Loxley is one of the most affordable ways to experience the Alabama Gulf Coast. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Loxley,%20AlabamaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Loxley, Alabama?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Loxley, Alabama. The state does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for personal motorhomes, travel trailers, or campervans rented on RVezy. Approved drivers are generally 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID directly through the platform during booking. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you're set. Most first-time renters are pleasantly surprised by how simple the paperwork is for an Alabama RV trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs RV insurance and roadside assistance included with my Loxley rental?
Yes, every RV rental in Loxley booked through RVezy includes a renter Protection Plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance. The Protection Plan covers physical damage to the RV during your trip, and you can choose between different coverage levels at checkout based on how much peace of mind you want. This gives renters meaningful financial protection so you can focus on enjoying the Eastern Shore instead of worrying about what-ifs.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Loxley RV trip?
Booking is genuinely low-risk. RVezy applies a standard cancellation policy across all listings, and every reservation includes a money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in your Loxley dates with confidence. Refund amounts after that depend on how far in advance you cancel, and there are special considerations for tropical storms and hurricanes, which matter on the Gulf Coast between June and November. Full details are spelled out on the RVezy site during checkout. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best rigs for the Shrimp Festival, knowing the grace period has your back.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Loxley?
Absolutely, and the Alabama Gulf Coast is one of the most dog-loving regions in the South. Plenty of hosts offer pet-friendly RV rental in Loxley: just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to see rigs that welcome your pup, then message the host about size or breed details. Once you're rolling, take your dog to Gulf State Park's pet-friendly beach area, the dog park at Orange Beach Waterfront Park, or the woodsy trails at Historic Blakeley State Park. Pro tip: bring a sun-shade and a collapsible water bowl, since Baldwin County summers regularly hit 90°F and pavement gets hot fast.
alapark.com/parks/gulf-state-parkCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Loxley?
Yes, RV delivery in Loxley is one of the most popular options on the platform, especially for first-timers who'd rather skip towing or driving a big rig. Many local hosts will deliver your travel trailer or motorhome straight to Gulf State Park, Bella Terra of Gulf Shores, Wales West RV Resort, or even a private driveway in Fairhope or Foley, then level it, hook up water, sewer, and 30/50-amp power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Filter by Delivery on RVezy to see which hosts offer it and what they charge (often a flat fee plus per-mile rate). Pro tip: delivery turns your Loxley RV trip into a true plug-and-play vacation.
alapark.com/parks/gulf-state-park/campingHow does mileage work, and can I find an RV rental with unlimited mileage?
Mileage policies in Loxley are set by each host, so you can shop for exactly what fits your itinerary. Many listings include 100 to 150 free miles per night, and a good number of Loxley hosts offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is perfect for a longer Gulf Coast loop. From Loxley, popular trips include Gulf Shores (about 30 miles south), Pensacola Beach, FL (about 50 miles east), Mobile (about 25 miles west), Dauphin Island (about 60 miles southwest), and New Orleans (about 150 miles west). Filter listings by mileage allowance, or message a host to discuss extra miles before you book. Pro tip: a stationary trailer parked at one campground all week often makes mileage a non-issue.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Loxley,%20AlabamaWhere are the best campgrounds near Loxley, AL?
Loxley sits in the sweet spot of Baldwin County, with several excellent campgrounds within a short drive. Wales West RV Resort in nearby Silverhill (about 10 minutes away) is a railroad-themed park with full hookups, a heated pool, and miniature train rides for the kids. Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores (about 35 miles south) offers nearly 500 improved sites steps from the beach. Bella Terra of Gulf Shores is a luxury resort with a lazy river, Magnolia Springs RV Park gives you a quieter, oak-shaded vibe, and Meaher State Park on Mobile Bay (about 20 miles west) has waterfront sites with great sunset views. Pro tip: book Gulf State Park 11 months out for spring break weeks.
alapark.com/parks/gulf-state-parkWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Loxley?
The shoulder seasons are the local secret: mid-March through May and mid-September through early November deliver highs in the 70s to mid-80s, lower humidity, smaller crowds, and the best campground availability across Baldwin County. Summer (June to August) in Loxley is hot and humid with highs near 90°F and afternoon thunderstorms, but Gulf beaches and RV air conditioning make it work. Winter is mild (highs typically 58 to 63°F), which is why snowbirds love the area from December through February. Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, with peak risk in August and September. Pro tip: plan around the National Shrimp Festival in Gulf Shores each October for an unforgettable RV camping Loxley experience.
weather.gov/mob/I'm a first time renting an RV, will I be okay?
You're going to do great, and Loxley is one of the friendliest places in the country to learn. Every RVezy host provides a full orientation at pickup, walking you through the generator, slide-outs, water system, propane, awning, leveling jacks, and dump procedure, and you can message them anytime during your trip with questions. Loxley itself sits on flat Gulf Coast terrain just off I-10 at exit 44, so there's no mountain driving or tight switchbacks to stress over. Combine that with delivery options and 24/7 roadside assistance, and first time renting an RV here feels almost foolproof. Pro tip: do your shakedown night at a nearby park like Wales West before heading to the beach.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat if something breaks down during my Loxley RV trip?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter Protection Plan, covering flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing if needed. If your air conditioner quits in the middle of an Alabama August or a slide-out won't retract at Gulf State Park, you can also message your host directly through the app, since many Loxley owners live nearby in Robertsdale, Fairhope, or Daphne and can troubleshoot fast. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after every trip too. Pro tip: snap a quick photo of any issue and send it through the chat so help arrives prepared with the right parts.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best RV road trip routes from Loxley?
An RV road trip from Loxley is a Gulf Coast dream. Head south about 30 miles to Gulf Shores and Orange Beach for sugar-white sand, then continue east along Highway 182 to Perdido Key and Pensacola Beach, FL (about 50 miles). Drive west on I-10 to Mobile (about 25 miles) and on to Dauphin Island for historic Fort Gaines and a ferry to the eastern shore. Push further west and you can reach New Orleans in roughly 2.5 hours (about 150 miles), or head northeast through Mobile and along the Mississippi Coast. Cross-border trips into Florida and Mississippi are typically allowed, but travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Pro tip: confirm out-of-state travel with your host before booking longer routes.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage and gas budget should I expect?
Budgeting fuel for your Loxley trip is easier than most travelers think. Class C motorhomes average around 8 to 10 miles per gallon (MPG), Class A coaches typically 6 to 8 MPG, campervans 16 to 20 MPG, and a truck pulling a travel trailer usually 9 to 12 MPG. Alabama consistently has some of the lowest gas prices in the country, with stations in Loxley, Robertsdale, and along I-10 making fill-ups easy. A typical 4-night trip with a Class C covering 200 miles often runs roughly $80 to $120 in fuel. Pro tip: a campervan rental in Loxley keeps fuel costs down and is great for beach-hopping couples.
gasprices.aaa.com/state-gas-price-averages/How far ahead should I book a campground near Loxley?
For the most popular spots, earlier is better. Gulf State Park is the big one: reservations open 11 months in advance through ReserveAmerica, and beach-front sites fill within minutes for spring break (March), summer weekends, and the October Shrimp Festival. Meaher State Park and Historic Blakeley State Park can usually be booked 2 to 3 months out. Private parks like Wales West, Bella Terra, and Magnolia Springs RV Park are best booked 1 to 3 months ahead for peak season, but often have shoulder-season openings within a week or two. Pro tip: if Gulf State Park is full, look at Bay Breeze Campground or Anchors Aweigh RV Resort as solid backups.
alapark.com/parks/gulf-state-park/campingWhat is driving an RV in and around Loxley actually like?
Driving is refreshingly easy around Loxley. The town sits at I-10 exit 44 on flat coastal terrain with wide, straight roads and minimal traffic outside of holiday weekends. Highway 59 south to Gulf Shores is a four-lane divided road handled comfortably by any RV. Watch for the Bayway and Wallace Tunnel on I-10 through Mobile (clearance is fine for standard RVs but check your rig's height with your host) and slow down for summer afternoon thunderstorms, which can drop heavy rain quickly. Hurricane evacuations may be ordered June to November, so check forecasts. Pro tip: avoid Highway 59 southbound on Saturday mornings in summer (beach traffic) and aim for a Friday afternoon arrival instead.

Campgrounds near Loxley are well-equipped and beginner-friendly. Most private parks like Wales West, Bella Terra, and Park Way RV Park in Loxley offer full hookups (30/50-amp electric, water, and sewer at the site), Wi-Fi, laundry, hot showers, and pools. Gulf State Park has improved sites with full hookups, a camp store, and laundry, plus access to dump stations and potable water fill-ups. If you're boondocking or staying at a partial-hookup site, you'll find dump stations at Gulf State Park, most travel centers along I-10, and many county parks. Pro tip: ask your host for a freshwater hose and a sewer kit before pickup, since many Loxley rentals include or rent these as add-ons.
alapark.com/parks/gulf-state-park/campingWhat's inside a typical motorhome rental in Loxley?
Motorhome rental in Loxley typically comes fully equipped for a turnkey Gulf Coast vacation. Expect a queen or king bed, convertible dinette or bunk beds (sleeping 4 to 8 depending on the rig), a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and often an oven, a bathroom with toilet and shower, roof air conditioning that easily handles Alabama heat, a furnace, and seatbelted travel seats. Most listings include a TV, many offer Wi-Fi or hotspot add-ons, and onboard generators are common on Class A and Class C rigs. Outdoor extras like awnings, camp chairs, and grills are standard. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps count and amenities to match your group, and message hosts for specifics like a king bed or kid-safe bunks.

Loxley hosts offer a wide menu of add-ons to customize your trip. Popular extras include bedding and linen packages, kitchen kits with pots, pans, and utensils, generators for boondocking, bikes, kayaks, beach gear, outdoor grills, portable fire pits, and Wi-Fi hotspots. Pickup is usually at the host's address in Loxley, Robertsdale, or Fairhope, though delivery and setup at your Gulf Coast campground is widely offered for a flat fee plus per-mile rate. Mileage policies vary by listing, typically 100 to 150 free miles per night, with unlimited mileage options available. Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a stocked kitchen and you'll arrive to a campsite that's basically a beach cottage on wheels.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Loxley,%20AlabamaHow does payment and the security deposit work for an RV rental in Loxley?
Payment is handled securely through the RVezy platform, never directly with the host, so you have a clear record and full support. You'll pay the full rental amount (nightly rate, fees, chosen Protection Plan, and any add-ons) at booking using a credit or debit card. A refundable security deposit is held separately and is released after your trip once the host confirms the RV came back clean, undamaged, and on time. To avoid issues, take timestamped photos at pickup and drop-off, refill propane and fuel as agreed, and follow the listing's cleaning expectations. Pro tip: keep all trip communication in the RVezy app for a smooth deposit return.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I take my Loxley RV rental across state lines into Florida or Mississippi?
Yes, cross-state travel from Loxley is one of the perks of Gulf Coast RVing. Most hosts welcome trips into Florida (Pensacola, Destin, 30A) and Mississippi (Biloxi, Gulfport), since RVezy Protection Plan coverage extends throughout the continental US. Travel into Canada may be allowed with advance host approval, but travel to Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental due to insurance limitations. Always confirm your route with the host through the listing's message feature before booking longer trips, especially anything over a week. Popular cross-border routes from Loxley include the Florida Panhandle beaches and the New Orleans loop through coastal Mississippi. Pro tip: keep your RV registration and Protection Plan details in the glovebox for quick reference.
