Camping near Malvern, Alabama
Malvern is a small town in northeastern Geneva County in the southeastern corner of Alabama, part of the Dothan metropolitan area in the Wiregrass region. The surrounding terrain is flat and forested, with peanut and cotton fields, pine woods, and slow rivers such as the Choctawhatchee and Pea. RV travelers use Malvern as a quiet base within reach of Dothan, the Florida Panhandle beaches, and the Fort Novosel military reservation.
Campground options in the immediate area lean toward small, privately owned RV parks with full hookups rather than large public campgrounds. A Okay RV Park and Hidden Hollow RV Park sit closest to town, while Alabama Wildwood RV, Alabama Wildwood RV Park, and Rosemont RV Park round out the nearby choices. Most sites are level, shaded by pines, and set up for pull-through access on standard rigs.
Drivers looking for state-park camping head south to Lake Jackson RV Park at Florala or west toward Frank Jackson State Park near Opp. Both are within roughly an hour of Malvern by road.
Things to do around Malvern
Water recreation drives most trips. Lake Jackson at Florala offers swimming, fishing, boating, and a lakeside pier, and the Choctawhatchee and Pea Rivers converge at Robert Fowler Memorial Park in Geneva, a popular spot for boating, birding, and picnicking beneath large live oaks.
Day trips reach Dothan in about thirty minutes for the Wiregrass Museum of Art, Landmark Park living-history farm, and the National Peanut Festival held each fall. The Gulf beaches at Destin, Fort Walton, and Panama City sit roughly an hour and a half south, making a beach day realistic from a Malvern base.
Closer to camp, expect small-town diners, produce stands, and quiet county roads suited to cycling and evening walks.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel. From March through May, highs climb from the mid-70s into the mid-80s, wildflowers bloom along the roadsides, and humidity stays manageable. September through November brings cooler nights, drier air, and the peanut harvest across Geneva and Houston counties, capped by the National Peanut Festival in Dothan.
Summer is hot and humid, with afternoon highs near 90 and frequent thunderstorms. Sites remain available at private parks, but shaded pads and 50-amp service become priorities. Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, with the highest risk of tropical systems in August and September; travelers should track forecasts and confirm evacuation routes.
Winters are mild, with daytime highs typically in the low 60s and occasional freezes overnight. Many local RV parks stay open year-round, and snowbirds passing between the interior South and the Gulf Coast use the area as a stopover.
How to book
Private parks around Malvern, including A Okay RV Park, Hidden Hollow RV Park, Alabama Wildwood RV, Alabama Wildwood RV Park, and Rosemont RV Park, typically take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites. Weekly and monthly stays are common, and many properties hold long-term residents, so calling ahead is the surest way to confirm nightly availability.
For state-park camping, Alabama State Parks uses a central reservation system at alapark.com. Non-resident guests may book up to twelve months in advance, Alabama residents up to thirteen months, a small non-refundable reservation fee applies per site, and the standard maximum stay is 14 nights, extended to 31 nights at select parks from November 1 through March 31. Campground check-in is 2 p.m. and check-out is 11 a.m.
Reserve early for spring weekends and the Peanut Festival week in Dothan.
What to expect on-site
Expect small, low-key parks with gravel or grass pads, mature pines for shade, and simple bathhouses rather than resort amenities. Most local sites offer 30 and 50-amp electric, water, and sewer, with laundry and Wi-Fi available at some but not all locations. Cell coverage is generally solid on major carriers along US-84 and State Highway 52.
Big-rig access is workable on paved county roads, though some approaches include tight turns and low-hanging limbs; confirm site length and clearance when booking. Insects are active from late spring through early fall, so pack repellent and consider a screen room.
Groceries, fuel, propane, and RV supplies are easiest to source in Slocomb, Geneva, and Dothan. Small hardware stores and laundromats are common in the smaller towns.
