Campgrounds and RV parks near Oakman, AL

Oakman sits in Walker County in northwest Alabama, roughly a half hour west of Jasper and within easy reach of Lewis Smith Lake, a 21,200-acre reservoir on the Sipsey Fork of the Black Warrior River created by Alabama Power with the completion of Lewis Smith Dam in 1961. The lake is the region's main draw for RV travelers, with over 500 miles of shoreline ringed by private resorts, county parks, and national forest recreation areas. Most RV-friendly campgrounds cluster around the Smith Lake basin north and east of town. Hidden Cove RV Resort sits on the lake near Arley, Arrowhead RV Resort at Smith Lake is across the water in Crane Hill, and Mount Olive RV Park, Bama RV Station, and Coaches Corner RV Park serve travelers closer to the Jasper and Birmingham corridors along US 78 and I-22. The surrounding landscape is wooded and hilly, with the William B. Bankhead National Forest to the north, home to the Sipsey Wilderness and known as the Land of a Thousand Waterfalls. Expect a mix of full-hookup lakeside resorts, forested federal campgrounds, and simpler roadside parks.
