Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV camping. From March through May, daytime highs climb from the low 70s into the mid 80s Fahrenheit, wildflowers bloom across the delta, and rainfall is moderate. Fall brings drier air and lower humidity, particularly in October and November, which is a favorite stretch for hikers and paddlers.
Summer is hot and humid, with average highs around 90 F, frequent afternoon thunderstorms, and some of the region's heaviest monthly rainfall. Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, with peak activity from mid-August through October, so travelers should track tropical systems and confirm park conditions before arriving on the coast.
Winters are mild. Average highs sit in the low 60s F and hard freezes are uncommon, which makes the area popular with snowbirds. Most campgrounds in the Stockton area, including Live Oak Landing, operate year-round.
How to book campgrounds near Stockton
Private parks near Stockton use their own booking systems. Live Oak Landing takes reservations directly and is also listed on major third-party platforms. Deer Creek RV Park, Autumn Lake RV Park, and I-65 RV Campground book through their own websites or by phone.
Historic Blakeley State Park is administered separately from the Alabama state park system, so it does not reserve through the state's central portal. Camping and cabin reservations for the park's Apalachee and other campgrounds are handled through the park's own booking page.
Reserve early for holiday weekends, spring break, and the fall snowbird season, when interstate-adjacent sites and delta-view spots fill first. Confirm rig length, hookup amp service, and pet policies at the time of booking.
What to expect on the ground
Sites near the delta tend to be spacious and shaded by live oaks, with concrete pads and full hookups at Live Oak Landing and gravel back-in or pull-through sites at the interstate parks. Cell service is generally reliable along the I-65 corridor and thinner deeper into the delta. Wi-Fi is offered at most parks but speeds vary.
Expect wildlife: alligators in delta waterways, snakes along trails, and heavy insect activity from late spring through early fall. Bring repellent, closed-toe footwear for hiking, and be cautious near riverbanks with children and pets.
Big rigs are generally accommodated at Live Oak Landing, Autumn Lake RV Park, and I-65 RV Campground, though confirming site length in advance is worthwhile. Historic Blakeley State Park charges a gate admission separate from camping fees.
