Bellemont camping overview
Bellemont is an unincorporated community in Coconino County, Arizona, sitting along Interstate 40 about 11 miles west-northwest of Flagstaff at roughly 7,132 feet of elevation. It is claimed to be the highest settlement along historic Route 66, and the National Weather Service Flagstaff forecast office is based here. The surrounding Coconino National Forest is dominated by ponderosa pine and delivers cooler temperatures year-round than the Arizona lowlands, which makes the area a popular summer escape from Phoenix and Tucson heat.
RV travelers use Bellemont as a base for the Grand Canyon South Rim (about 80 miles north), Sedona, Williams, and the San Francisco Peaks. Options within a short drive include Woody Mountain Campground, Kit Carson RV Park, Fort Tuthill County Campground, Black Barts RV Park, and Village Camp Flagstaff, ranging from established Route 66 parks to a newer full-hookup resort just off I-40 in Bellemont itself.
Things to do near Bellemont
The Coconino National Forest surrounds Bellemont with hiking, mountain biking, and off-road routes, including access points to the Arizona Trail. Arizona Snowbowl, on the San Francisco Peaks, offers skiing and snowboarding in winter and scenic chairlift rides in summer. Historic Route 66 runs directly through Bellemont, and a preserved stretch of the original highway is accessible nearby.
Day trips from a Bellemont base cover a lot of ground. The South Rim of the Grand Canyon sits about 80 miles north, Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon lie to the south, and Williams and Bearizona are a short hop west on I-40. Closer in, Fort Tuthill County Park hosts trails, a bike park, an amphitheater, and a military museum.
