Canyon Day is a White Mountain Apache community on the Fort Apache Indian Reservation in east-central Arizona, sitting just south of Whiteriver in the valley of the White River at about 5,000 feet. The surrounding tribal lands cover roughly 1.6 million acres of ponderosa pine forest, high-country lakes, and river canyons, giving RV travelers a cool escape from the desert as elevations climb toward Mount Baldy on the reservation's eastern edge. Campgrounds near Canyon Day are tribally operated and tend to be rustic rather than resort-style. Rock Creek Apache Indian Res and Lower Log Road Apache Indian Res sit along creek and river corridors near Whiteriver, while Upper Log Apache Reservation is set on the banks of the North Fork of the White River. Higher up on the Mogollon Rim, Cooley Lake Apache Indian Res and Hawley Lake Apache Indian Res offer lakeside sites in pine, spruce, and aspen forest at elevations above 8,000 feet.
