Campgrounds and RV parks near Elephant Head, AZ

Elephant Head is a small community and namesake rock formation in the foothills of the Santa Rita Mountains, south of Tucson and just east of Green Valley, Arizona. The area sits within reach of Coronado National Forest lands, Madera Canyon, and the wine country around Sonoita and Patagonia, making it a practical base for RV travelers exploring southern Arizona. Most RV parks in the immediate area cater to snowbirds and cluster around Green Valley and the I-19 corridor. Green Valley has a hot semi-arid climate with very hot summers and cool winters, and its inland location amplifies the seasonal temperature swings. That pattern shapes the local camping calendar, with heavy demand from late fall through spring and lighter use in summer. Close-in options include De Anza Trails RV Resort and Green Valley RV Resort Park along the corridor, Caballo Loco Ranch LLC for a quieter ranch-style stay, and Patagonia Lake State Park and Patagonia RV Park for those willing to drive southeast toward the lake and wine country.

Arizona State Parks handles reservations for Patagonia Lake State Park through its official reservation system, with a rolling booking window that opens well in advance. Waterfront and hookup sites at the lake are the first to fill for winter weekends and holidays, so early booking is essential. Private RV parks around Green Valley, including De Anza Trails RV Resort and Green Valley RV Resort Park, take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites. Many operate on a seasonal model and offer monthly stays that are booked out well before the winter arrival wave. Coronado National Forest developed campgrounds in the Santa Rita and Patagonia ranges are managed through Recreation.gov, though several nearby sites are first-come, first-served. Confirm status before arrival, since seasonal closures and fire restrictions can change access.
