Camping near Florence, Arizona
Florence sits in the Sonoran Desert of central Arizona, roughly an hour southeast of Phoenix and north of Tucson along the Gila River. The town is a practical base for RV travelers who want desert scenery, historic sites, and easy interstate access without staying inside a large metro area. The entire historic district of Florence is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, with well over 100 homes, businesses, and churches built from the late 1800s through the mid 1900s.
RV options cluster along the highways leading into town. Desert Gardens RV Park and Rancho Sonora RV Park sit close to the historic core, while Indian Skies RV Resort and its 55+ section offer larger resort-style stays. HoHo Kam Mobile Village- RV Park rounds out the local choices for longer parking. Rancho Sonora RV Park is positioned between Phoenix and Tucson and offers full-service sites geared to winter visitors.
Most parks in the area are big-rig friendly and cater heavily to winter snowbirds, so amenities, laundry, and full hookups are standard. Reservations are handled directly with each park rather than through a central agency.
Things to do around Florence
History is the anchor. The original First Pinal County Courthouse, built in 1878, is the oldest standing courthouse in Arizona and today anchors McFarland State Historic Park, with exhibits on territorial life along the Gila River. The Pinal County Historical Museum in town covers regional history from pre-contact Native American life through modern Florence.
Casa Grande Ruins National Monument, in nearby Coolidge, preserves an ancient Hohokam farming community and its four-story Great House. Set aside by President Benjamin Harrison in 1892 as the nation's first archaeological reserve and proclaimed a national monument in 1918, it works well as a half-day trip from Florence. St. Anthony's Greek Orthodox Monastery, a desert monastery blending Byzantine art and Greek Orthodox tradition, is also within easy reach.
Outdoor recreation includes hiking and OHV trails in the surrounding desert, day trips to the Superstition Mountains, and boating on Saguaro or Roosevelt lakes to the north.

In Florence, summers are sweltering and dry, winters are cool, and skies are mostly clear year round. The peak RV season runs from roughly November through March, when daytime highs are mild and overnight lows are cool but rarely freezing. Snowbird demand is heavy in this window, and most nearby resorts fill weeks or months ahead for January and February stays.
Spring shoulder season, March through May, brings warm days and desert wildflowers. It is a good compromise between crowds and comfort, though late May temperatures climb quickly. Fall shoulder season in October and November has similar appeal with cooler evenings.
Summer is the off-season for a reason. Over the course of the year, temperatures in Florence typically vary from around 41°F to 104°F, with July as the hottest month and average highs near 100°F. July and August are usually Arizona's two hottest months, and the state typically sees more than half of its annual precipitation during this monsoon window. Monsoon thunderstorms can bring flash flooding, dust storms, and lightning, so plan drives around afternoon storm windows.

This was our first experience with an RV, and we couldn’t have asked for a better one! Eloy made everything so easy from the beginning. He took the time to explain everything clearly, which made us feel very comfortable and confident throughout the trip. The motorhome was absolutely amazing, extremely clean, organized, and very well maintained. We were especially impressed with how well equipped it was. It had everything we needed and more, which made our experience even more enjoyable and comfortable. Eloy, thank you so much for making our first RV adventure such a wonderful experience. We truly enjoyed every moment, and we are absolutely certain we will rent from you again in the future. Highly recommended!

How to book an RV site
Most RV parks around Florence, including Desert Gardens RV Park, Rancho Sonora RV Park, Indian Skies RV Resort, the Indian Skies RV Resort 55+ section, and HoHo Kam Mobile Village- RV Park, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Some also list availability through third-party platforms such as Campspot, RoverPass, or Good Sam.
For winter stays from December through March, book several months ahead. Monthly and seasonal rates are common, and many parks give priority to returning long-term guests. Ask about age restrictions before booking, since Indian Skies RV Resort (55+) and several nearby communities are age-qualified.
For federal sites in the broader region, such as those in Tonto National Forest, reservations go through Recreation.gov with a six-month rolling window. Arizona State Parks campgrounds use the state's own reservation system.
What to expect on site
Expect flat, gravel or paved pull-through and back-in sites with full hookups at 30 and 50 amp. Most Florence-area parks are built for large motorhomes and fifth wheels, with wide interior roads and generous site spacing. Shade is limited: the desert setting means sun exposure is intense, and awnings or portable shades are useful year round.
Common amenities include laundry, showers, a clubhouse or activity room, and a pool or spa at the larger resorts. Winter parks often run organized activities like pickleball, cards, potlucks, and craft nights aimed at long-stay guests.
Cell coverage is generally strong on major carriers. Grocery stores, fuel, propane, and RV service are available in Florence and nearby Coolidge and Casa Grande. Watch for javelina, coyotes, and rattlesnakes in the surrounding desert, and keep pets leashed.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Florence%2C%20ArizonaDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Florence, Arizona?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Florence, Arizona. No commercial driver's license (CDL) or special endorsement is required for any motorhome or trailer you'll find on the RVezy platform, whether it's a campervan, Class C, or fifth wheel. Approved renters are generally required to be at least 25 years old, and RVezy verifies your ID right inside the booking flow. Visiting from outside the U.S.? An International Driving Permit (IDP) paired with your home license keeps you road-legal in Arizona. Most first-timers are surprised how simple the requirements really are.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection is included with my Florence RV rental?
Every booking on RVezy automatically includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you're covered from the moment you pick up the keys in Florence. The protection plan covers physical damage to the RV during your trip, which means a small mishap on a dusty Pinal County back road won't ruin your vacation. During checkout you can choose between different protection tiers, letting you select the deductible and level of coverage that fits your budget. It gives you real financial backup and the confidence to focus on Saguaro sunsets instead of worst-case scenarios.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Florence RV trip?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy applies a standard cancellation policy across the platform, so you don't have to decode different host rules. There is a money-back grace period right after booking, and refund amounts after that depend on how far out you are from your trip start date. Hosts do not set their own cancellation terms, which keeps things consistent and fair. If a host cancels, RVezy refunds the guest or provides travel credits. If you need to change plans, open your RVezy dashboard or message support, and the team will walk you through your options. That flexibility is one big reason a Florence RV trip is a smart booking even months in advance.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Florence RV rental?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental Florence options are plentiful. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see listings whose owners welcome dogs (some allow cats too) for a small cleaning fee. Florence itself is dog-friendly outdoors: Heritage Park downtown has shaded grass, and the trails at nearby San Tan Mountain Regional Park allow leashed pups. Many local RV parks have dedicated pet areas. Pro tip: pack extra water bowls. Even in winter, the desert sun is intense, and your dog will drink more than usual on Sonoran hikes.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Florence%2C%20ArizonaCan the RV be delivered to my campground or rental house in Florence?
Yes, RV delivery Florence is one of the most popular options on the platform, especially for first-timers who would rather skip driving a big rig. Many Florence hosts will deliver to local campgrounds or a private driveway in nearby Coolidge or San Tan Valley. The host arrives, levels the RV, connects water, sewer, and electric hookups, and walks you through every system before handing over the keys. Use the Delivery filter when you search, then message the host to confirm the address and any delivery fee (typically based on mileage from their location). It's the closest thing to a vacation rental on wheels.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Florence%2C%20ArizonaHow far can I drive my RV rental from Florence on a typical mileage allowance?
Most Florence hosts include between 100 and 150 free miles per night, with extra miles priced around $0.35 to $0.50 each, and some listings even offer RV rental with unlimited mileage (use the search filter to find them). That's plenty of range for the best stuff: Phoenix is just 60 miles northwest, Tucson sits 70 miles south, Saguaro National Park is about 80 miles away, Sedona is roughly 175 miles north, and Grand Canyon South Rim is around 285 miles. If you're planning a bigger loop, like an RV road trip from Florence to the Grand Canyon and back, filter for unlimited mileage upfront so you can roam Arizona without watching the odometer.
nps.gov/grca/planyourvisit/directions.htmWhere are the best campgrounds near Florence, AZ?
You have great choices for RV camping Florence. Desert Gardens RV Park in Florence caters to snowbirds with a heated pool and pickleball, while The Westerner RV Park is a budget-friendly classic near downtown. About 30 minutes south, Picacho Peak State Park offers electric and water hookups with iconic peak views and spring wildflowers. To the north, McDowell Mountain Regional Park near Fountain Hills has paved sites and stunning sunset views, and Lost Dutchman State Park sits at the foot of the Superstition Mountains. Pro tip: snowbird-favorite parks fill up by October for the winter season, so reserve your spot at the same time you book your RV through RVezy.
azstateparks.com/picacho/When is the best time of year for an RV trip in Florence, Arizona?
October through April is the best window for a Florence RV trip. Daytime highs sit in a comfortable 65 to 80 degree Fahrenheit range, nights cool to the 40s and 50s, and the desert sky is famously clear. February and March bring wildflowers and popular events to the area. Summer (June through September) is genuinely hot, with highs of 100 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit, but rental prices drop and monsoon thunderstorms can light up the sky. Insider tip: book a mid-November pickup, you'll dodge the Thanksgiving rush, beat the January snowbird wave, and enjoy ideal hiking weather at Picacho Peak State Park.
weather.gov/psr/What if I've never driven an RV before?
First time renting an RV? You're going to be fine, and Florence is actually a great launchpad because the roads are wide, traffic is light, and parking lots are huge. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through driving, leveling, hookups, the generator, the awning, slide-outs, and the dump process. If you'd rather skip driving entirely, choose a host offering delivery and setup, and your only job is to unlock the door. Pro tip: take your first practice loop on Highway 79 toward Coolidge before heading anywhere ambitious. You'll get a feel for the rig and arrive at Casa Grande Ruins National Monument relaxed and ready.
nps.gov/cagr/planyourvisit/index.htmWhat roadside assistance is included if something goes wrong?
Every RVezy booking comes with 24/7 roadside assistance included with the protection plan at no extra charge. Whether you have a flat on Highway 79, a dead battery at Box Canyon, or a tow need on I-10 between Florence and Casa Grande, one phone call gets a professional dispatched to you. The service covers tire changes, jump-starts, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing to the nearest qualified service center. Your host is also a text away for quick questions about quirks of their specific RV. Pro tip: save the assistance phone number on your phone before you leave the host's driveway, and you will never have to dig for it.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I take my Florence RV rental on an out-of-state road trip?
Yes, interstate travel within the U.S. is welcome on RVezy rentals, and Florence's central Arizona location makes it a fantastic launchpad. Popular RV road trips from Florence include Joshua Tree National Park in California (about 320 miles west), Zion National Park in Utah (about 470 miles north), White Sands National Park in New Mexico (about 410 miles east), and the Grand Canyon (285 miles north). One important note: travel to Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals because insurance doesn't extend across the border, even though Nogales is just two hours away. Cross-border travel into Canada may be possible with host approval. Message the host directly from the listing to confirm your route before booking.
nps.gov/jotr/planyourvisit/directions.htmWhat kind of fuel mileage should I budget for my Florence RV trip?
Budget realistically and you won't be surprised at the pump. Class A motorhomes average 7 to 10 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C around 10 to 14 MPG, campervans (Class B) often hit 18 to 22 MPG, and a truck-and-travel-trailer combo lands near 10 to 13 MPG. Arizona gas prices have hovered around $3.40 to $3.80 per gallon in the Florence and Casa Grande area, with the cheapest stations usually along the I-10 frontage in Eloy. For a 500-mile loop in a Class C, plan on roughly $150 to $180 in fuel. Pro tip: top up in Florence or Casa Grande before heading toward the Superstition Mountains, where gas gets noticeably pricier.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Florence?
For peak season (November through March), reserve your Florence-area campground 3 to 6 months ahead, because snowbirds lock in spots early at popular parks like Desert Gardens and The Westerner. Arizona State Parks like Picacho Peak (about 30 miles south) and Lost Dutchman (about 50 miles north) take reservations up to 12 months in advance through the official azstateparks.com reservation system, and weekends fill within days of opening. For summer trips you can often book just a week or two out. Pro tip: if you strike out, use the RVezy Delivery filter and have your host bring the rig to a friend's driveway or a private campsite instead.
azstateparks.com/reserveWhat are driving conditions like around Florence, Arizona?
Driving in and around Florence is refreshingly easy: flat terrain, wide highways like Highway 79 and Highway 287, and very little stop-and-go traffic outside of Phoenix rush hour. Watch for two local quirks. First, summer monsoon storms (July to mid-September) can dump heavy rain in minutes and trigger flash flooding in washes, so obey all Do Not Enter When Flooded signs. Second, dust storms (haboobs) occasionally roll across the open desert; if visibility drops, pull fully off the road, turn off your lights, and wait it out. The Arizona Department of Transportation's 511 service gives live road and weather updates. Otherwise, expect sunny skies and calm cruising perfect for a relaxed motorhome rental Florence experience.
az511.gov/What hookups and amenities do Florence-area campgrounds offer?
Most private campgrounds near Florence offer full hookups (water, sewer, and 30/50-amp electric), which means you can run the AC during warm afternoons. Parks like Desert Gardens and The Westerner typically have on-site dump stations, potable water fill, laundry, and Wi-Fi. Arizona State Parks campgrounds like Picacho Peak generally offer electric and water at the site but no sewer, with a dump station near the entrance. Many private parks also open their dump and water fill to non-guests for a small fee. Pro tip: arrive with your fresh tank half full so you stay light on fuel but ready to dry-camp if needed.
azstateparks.com/picacho/What's inside a typical Florence RV rental?
Expect more comfort than you'd guess. A typical campervan rental Florence sleeps 2 to 4 with a convertible bed, small kitchen (fridge, two-burner stove, sink), and sometimes a wet bath. Class C motorhomes usually sleep 4 to 7 with a queen bed, dinette, full kitchen, gas/electric fridge, microwave, bathroom with shower, roof AC, furnace, and seatbelted passenger seats. Bigger Class A and fifth wheel listings often add a second TV, outdoor speakers, washer/dryer, and an onboard generator critical when you're boondocking in 90-degree Arizona afternoons. Wi-Fi varies; many hosts include a mobile hotspot as an add-on. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps count to instantly narrow to family-friendly rigs for your family RV trip Florence weekend.
fmcsa.dot.gov/regulations/title49/section/393.93What add-ons and pickup options should I expect when I rent an RV in Florence?
Florence hosts make it easy to customize your trip. Common add-ons include linen and kitchen packages ($50 to $100), portable generators ($25 to $50/night), bike racks, camp chairs and tables, portable grills, and outdoor patio mats perfect for desert evenings. Mileage policies usually start with 100 to 150 free miles per night, with optional unlimited mileage upgrades for road-trippers. Pickup is most often at the host's home near Florence, Coolidge, or San Tan Valley, but delivery to any campground or private property in Pinal County is widely offered. Pro tip: ask your host about a late-return option; an extra hour or two in the morning means you can dump tanks unhurried before heading back.
florenceaz.gov/How do payment and the security deposit work for a Florence RV rental?
Payment is simple and fully online: you pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card, and your trip total is typically split into an initial payment at booking and the balance closer to your pickup date. A refundable security deposit is pre-authorized on your card before pickup, separate from your booking payment, and released back to you after a clean return. To avoid any issues, do a thorough video walkaround with your host at pickup and again at drop-off, and confirm condition inside the RVezy app. That paper trail keeps your deposit safe and the whole process stress-free.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksHow do I handle summer heat in a Florence RV rental?
Florence summers are real (June through August routinely hit 105 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit), but a well-equipped RV handles it well. Look for listings with dual roof AC units and an onboard generator so you can keep the rig cool even when you are off-grid. Drive in the early morning or evening to ease the load on the engine and AC, park in shade when possible, and use reflective windshield covers (many hosts include them). Stay hydrated, carry at least a gallon of water per person per day, and plan hikes at Picacho Peak or Box Canyon for sunrise. Pro tip: shoulder season RV camping Florence (late September and early May) gives you mild days, quieter trails, and lower summer pricing; it is the smart-money move.
