Campgrounds and RV parks near Safford, AZ

Safford sits in Arizona's Gila River Valley in Graham County, southeast of Phoenix and northeast of Tucson. The town serves as the practical base for exploring the Pinaleño Mountains and Mount Graham, the tallest of southeastern Arizona's sky island ranges at 10,720 feet. RV renters typically choose between full-hookup private parks in and around town and lakeside state park sites a short drive south. Private options close to town include Lexington Pines Resort, LLC, Safford RV Resort, Valley View RV Park, Alaskan RV Park, and Grande Vista RV Park. These parks generally cater to snowbirds and travelers passing through on US-70 and US-191, with paved sites and standard hookups suited to larger rigs. For a more scenic setting, Roper Lake State Park lies about six miles south of Safford at the base of Mount Graham, with three campground loops, eight cabins, and swim and fishing access on the lake. National forest campgrounds along the Swift Trail Parkway offer cooler, higher-elevation camping in ponderosa pine, though access is seasonal and better suited to smaller RVs.

Private RV parks in and around town, including Safford RV Resort, Alaskan RV Park, Valley View RV Park, Grande Vista RV Park, and Lexington Pines Resort, LLC, take reservations directly by phone or website. Monthly rates are common, and winter is the busiest season for long-stay snowbirds, so booking several months ahead is advised for November through March. Roper Lake State Park sites and cabins are reserved through the Arizona State Parks system online or by calling 877-MY-PARKS. Reservations can be made up to 365 days in advance, with the daily booking window opening at 8 a.m. Arizona time. Coronado National Forest campgrounds on Mount Graham, such as Arcadia and Hospital Flat, are booked through Recreation.gov. Reservation windows open several months in advance, and weekends fill quickly during the summer heat-escape season.
