Campgrounds and RV parks near Sedona, AZ

Hiking is the primary draw. Trailheads for Cathedral Rock, Bell Rock, Devil's Bridge, and Soldier Pass sit within a short drive of central campgrounds, and the Red Rock Scenic Byway on Highway 179 links most of them. A Red Rock Pass or equivalent federal recreation pass is required at most Coconino National Forest trailheads. Oak Creek runs through several campgrounds and supports wading, swimming, and trout fishing under Arizona Game and Fish rules. Slide Rock State Park, north of town in Oak Creek Canyon, is a well-known natural waterslide and swimming spot. Day trips from a Sedona base include the Grand Canyon's South Rim (roughly two hours), Montezuma Castle National Monument, and the Page Springs wineries in the Verde Valley.

Spring and fall are the peak RV seasons. March through May brings mild days, wildflower bloom, and the most crowded trails and campgrounds. September through early November delivers similar temperatures with cottonwood and sycamore color along Oak Creek. Reservations at in-town parks often fill several weeks out during these windows. Summer is hot but manageable at Sedona's elevation, with afternoon highs frequently in the 90s Fahrenheit and cooler nights. The North American monsoon typically runs July through early September, producing afternoon thunderstorms, lightning, and flash-flood risk in canyons and washes. Check forecasts before hiking narrow drainages. Winter is the quiet season. Days generally warm above freezing, but overnight lows dip near or below freezing and light snow is possible, especially in Oak Creek Canyon, where elevations run several hundred feet higher than downtown Sedona. Several Forest Service campgrounds in the canyon may close during the cold months, while private in-town parks generally operate year-round.

Roads into Sedona are paved and RV-accessible, but Highway 179 and Highway 89A through Oak Creek Canyon are winding, narrow in spots, and busy on weekends. Plan arrivals for weekday mornings when possible. Downtown Sedona has limited large-rig parking; use campground shuttles or the local trolley where available. Sites vary in size and levelness. In-town parks such as Rancho Sedona RV Park offer full hookups but sites can sit close together. Forest Service campgrounds have vault or basic restrooms, potable water, and no hookups. Cell service is generally solid in town and patchy in the canyon. Fire restrictions are common from late spring through the monsoon. Check current stage restrictions with the Red Rock Ranger District before arrival, and never move firewood into the area.
