Campgrounds and RV parks near Sells, AZ

Sells is the capital of the Tohono O'odham Nation, located in the Sonoran Desert of south-central Arizona along State Route 86 between Tucson and Why. The community sits within a wide desert valley framed by the Baboquivari and Quinlan Mountains, with Baboquivari Peak and the Kitt Peak National Observatory rising nearby. Elevation is roughly 2,400 feet, which keeps winters milder than higher desert country to the north. RV travelers use Sells primarily as a base for the surrounding public and private lands. The area draws snowbirds from November through March, birders headed to the sky islands, and travelers routing west to Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument or east to Tucson and Saguaro National Park. Options in this corridor range from small ranch-style parks to full-hookup RV resorts closer to Tucson. Representative campgrounds in the wider region include Caballo Loco Ranch LLC, Universal Ranch RV Park, Mesquite Ranch Campground, Desert Trails RV Park, and Tres Mesquites RV Park, each offering a different mix of hookups, terrain, and proximity to town.

Private RV parks in the Sells and Tucson corridor, including Caballo Loco Ranch LLC, Universal Ranch RV Park, Mesquite Ranch Campground, Desert Trails RV Park, and Tres Mesquites RV Park, are booked directly with the operator by phone, website, or email. Winter sites, especially monthly stays, should be reserved several months in advance. Federal sites near Sells use Recreation.gov. Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument's Twin Peaks Campground operates year-round and accepts reservations up to six months ahead, with same-day bookings when sites remain. Twin Peaks has no hookups but offers a dump station and potable water. Alamo Canyon is a small primitive campground and does not permit RVs, motorhomes, or trailers. Travel on the Tohono O'odham Nation may require a tribal permit for hiking, camping, or backcountry access off the main highways. Confirm current permit rules with the Nation before leaving paved routes.
