Campgrounds and RV parks near Seven Mile, AZ

Seven Mile sits in Arizona's White Mountains at roughly 7,800 feet, on the eastern edge of the Fort Apache Indian Reservation. The surrounding country is high-elevation ponderosa pine and mixed conifer forest, cut by trout streams and dotted with tribal lakes. Most camping in the immediate area is on White Mountain Apache tribal land rather than in a national forest or state park, which shapes how permits, access, and seasons work. The closest developed options cluster around tribal lakes and forest roads. Roughly 100 campsites are spread along the west side of the 300-acre Hawley Lake, and Rock Creek Apache Indian Res, Lower Log Road Apache Indian Res, Upper Log Apache Reservation, and Cooley Lake Apache Indian Res add primitive and semi-developed sites along nearby drainages. All designated campsites have a picnic table, fire ring, toilet facilities, and trash service, though hookups are generally not available. RVers should plan for dry camping and self-contained travel.

Camping here is not booked through Recreation.gov or ReserveAmerica. Sites are on tribal land and managed by the White Mountain Apache Tribe Game and Fish Department. General camping on the reservation is on a first-come, first-served basis, so reservations are not required. Most campgrounds typically have vacancies except during the peak July 4th and Memorial Day weekends. A tribal permit is required before setting up. One camping per-vehicle permit covers up to 8 people or one vehicle. Permits can be purchased online at wmatoutdoor.org or by calling the Game and Fish office at 928-338-4385. Permits are also sold at the Hawley Lake store and at Hon-Dah near the SR 260 and SR 73 junction. Reservation camping permits are non-transferable and non-refundable. Fishing requires a separate tribal permit.
