Campgrounds and RV parks near Sonoita, AZ

Sonoita sits at roughly 5,000 feet in the rolling grasslands of southeastern Arizona, between the Santa Rita, Whetstone, and Huachuca mountains. The elevation keeps temperatures noticeably cooler than Tucson, which makes the surrounding area a practical base for RV travelers year-round. Most nearby campgrounds cluster along State Route 82 toward Patagonia and along State Route 90 toward Benson. Patagonia Lake State Park sits on State Route 82 about 7 miles south of Patagonia and contains a 2.5-mile-long lake popular for fishing, camping, boat rental, picnicking, hiking, and birding. The park has 105 developed campsites with picnic tables, fire rings, and 20/30 and 50 amp voltage, and sites tend to fill up in the evening from May until November. Patagonia RV Park offers a quieter, in-town alternative closer to shops and tasting rooms. Farther out, Kartchner Caverns State Park, roughly 45 minutes north near Benson, has campsites with electric and water hookups and is open year-round. Quail Ridge RV Resort and Mountain View RV Park, both in the Benson corridor, add long-stay and snowbird-friendly options within easy reach of Sonoita's wineries and trails.

Arizona State Parks handles reservations for Patagonia Lake State Park and Kartchner Caverns State Park through a single online system and the 1-877-MY-PARKS phone line. Reservations will only be accepted no later than one day prior to the date being reserved and no earlier than 365 days in advance. A two-night minimum stay applies during peak season weekends, and there is a 14 night maximum stay length within a 30-day period per park, per household. Private parks such as Patagonia RV Park, Quail Ridge RV Resort, and Mountain View RV Park take bookings directly by phone or through their own websites, and often accept weekly and monthly stays for snowbirds. Winter and spring sites in the Benson and Patagonia corridors fill weeks ahead, so booking early is wise.
