Campgrounds and RV parks near St. Johns, AZ

St. Johns is a small census-designated place in Maricopa County on the south side of the Phoenix metropolitan area, located within the Gila River Indian Community and about 15 miles southwest of downtown Phoenix. RV travelers use it as a quieter base for exploring the Sonoran Desert and the wider Valley of the Sun, with access via Interstate 10, Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway, and Loop 303 out to the West Valley. Most RV inventory in the region sits in private full-hookup parks scattered across the metro rather than in immediate walking distance of St. Johns. Covered Wagon RV Park is a small all-ages park off I-17 in central Phoenix, and Cotton Lane RV and Golf Resort is a 55-plus community in Goodyear with pull-through, big-rig-friendly sites. Sundial, Desertscape, and Royal Palms fill out the private options across the wider Valley. Estrella Mountain Regional Park, the closest public campground of note, sits across the Gila River in Goodyear and offers a limited number of developed RV sites inside a 19,840-acre Maricopa County regional park.

Private parks including Covered Wagon RV Park, Sundial, Desertscape, Cotton Lane RV and Golf Resort, and Royal Palms take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone, and several also list availability on third-party platforms such as Campspot. For peak winter and spring training weeks, book several months out. Cotton Lane RV and Golf Resort restricts stays to guests 55 and over, so confirm eligibility before reserving. Estrella Mountain Regional Park and other Maricopa County parks, including White Tank Mountain and Lake Pleasant, take reservations through the Maricopa County Parks system at maricopacountyparks.org. County residents receive an early booking window ahead of the general public, so out-of-area visitors should reserve as soon as the general window opens.
