Campgrounds and RV parks near Swift Trail Junction, AZ

Swift Trail Junction sits at the intersection of US-191 and AZ-366 in southeastern Arizona, about eight miles south of Safford. It marks the start of the Swift Trail Parkway, a paved scenic route that climbs from roughly 2,900 feet in the Gila Valley to alpine ridges above 9,000 feet in the Pinaleño Mountains, part of the Coronado National Forest. Because the junction itself has no lodging or hookups, most RV travelers base themselves in the nearby Safford area and use the site as a launch point for day trips up Mount Graham. Full-hookup options in the corridor include Safford RV Resort, Lexington Pines Resort, LLC, Grande Vista RV Park, and Lifestyle RV Resort and Fitness Center. Willcox/Cochise KOA Holiday sits farther west along I-10 and works well for travelers combining a Pinaleño trip with Chiricahua or Cochise County stops. Roper Lake State Park, six miles south of Safford at the base of Mount Graham, is the main public-agency campground in the area and accommodates larger rigs that cannot take the mountain road.

Private RV parks in the valley, including Safford RV Resort, Lexington Pines Resort, LLC, Grande Vista RV Park, Lifestyle RV Resort and Fitness Center, and Willcox/Cochise KOA Holiday, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Winter is the busiest season for these parks because of snowbird traffic, so booking several weeks or months ahead is prudent from November through March. Roper Lake State Park sites and cabins are reserved through Arizona State Parks, online or by calling the Reservation Center at 1-877-MY-PARKS. Sites may be booked up to twelve months in advance, with a two-night minimum on weekends and a three-night minimum on holidays. Forest Service campgrounds along the Swift Trail are booked through Recreation.gov once the upper gate opens for the season.
