Camping near Conway, Arkansas
Conway sits in central Arkansas along Interstate 40, about 30 miles north of Little Rock and just east of the Arkansas River. The location puts RV travelers within a short drive of Corps of Engineers riverfront parks, Arkansas State Parks in the Ouachita and Ozark foothills, and privately operated RV resorts serving both weekend travelers and long-haul I-40 traffic.
Options close to town include Forest Lake Estates Motorhome Complex, Hilltop RV Resort, and Titan RV Park in nearby Vilonia, which shares grounds with the former Titan II Missile Base. Hilltop 10 Eclipse Camp and Ohana Celebration Park round out the private options for families looking for hookup sites near Conway proper.
Public camping is concentrated west of the city along the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System. Toad Suck Park, run by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers next to the Toad Suck Lock and Dam, is the closest federal campground and books through recreation.gov. Petit Jean State Park, about 45 minutes west, offers full-service state park camping on top of Petit Jean Mountain.
Things to do around Conway
The Arkansas River defines most outdoor recreation in the area. Boat ramps, shoreline fishing, and barge-watching are the main draws at Corps of Engineers parks along the Toad Suck Ferry Pool, with catfish, bream, crappie, white bass, and largemouth bass the usual catch. Lake Conway, one of the largest state-built lakes in the country, sits just south of the city and offers additional fishing and paddling access.
Within a short drive, Petit Jean State Park has miles of trails, the 95-foot Cedar Falls, and Lake Bailey for pedal boats and kayaks. Woolly Hollow State Park to the north offers swimming and a small lake for calm-water paddling.
In town, Conway has downtown shops, restaurants, and the annual Toad Suck Daze festival held the first weekend in May.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel in central Arkansas. March through May brings mild highs and flowering dogwood, redbud, and wild plum along the river bluffs, though it is also the wettest stretch of the year. May is historically the peak rainfall month in the region, and severe thunderstorms with hail, high wind, and occasional tornadoes are common through the spring. Riverfront sites along the Arkansas River can be affected by extended high water after heavy rain upstream.
Summer is hot and muggy, with daytime highs regularly in the 90s and July averaging near the annual peak. Sites with shade or 50-amp service for running air conditioning fill quickly on weekends. Biting insects are active near the river.
Fall cools off in October and November and brings foliage color across the Ouachita and Ozark foothills. Winters are short and generally mild, with occasional freezes and light snow. Some private parks stay open year round, while a few state and Corps facilities reduce services or close loops in the off season.

Worked out great! Easy to drive and was plenty of space!
Scott W. - Oct 2024
Shannon was very easy to deal with. He was very easy to communicate with, very cooperative and helpful, even to tne degree of having to come to the rv and help with getting the bed to extend. The area that need some attention was the rv was just returned from a prior rental and the owner was not able to service the unit. It was not clean and the prior renter returned the unit needing some attention as a result I am requesting a return of the cleaning fee in addition to my Deposit of $1000.

How to book
Federal sites at Toad Suck Park and other Corps of Engineers parks along the Arkansas River are reserved through recreation.gov or by phone at 1-877-444-6777. All standard campsites at Toad Suck are reservable, and bookings open up to six months in advance. Popular holiday weekends fill early.
Arkansas State Parks, including Petit Jean and Woolly Hollow, use the state reservation portal at reserve.arkansasstateparks.com. Online reservations typically open six months in advance to the day. A non-refundable reservation deposit equal to the first night is required at booking.
Private parks such as Forest Lake Estates Motorhome Complex, Hilltop RV Resort, Hilltop 10 Eclipse Camp, Titan RV Park, and Ohana Celebration Park are booked directly through the operator or through third-party listing platforms.
What to expect on the ground
Toad Suck Park features three camping loops with concrete pads, electric and water hookups, hot showers, a dump station, boat ramp, and playgrounds. Sites can accommodate rigs up to 85 feet, though Loop A works better for smaller units due to less level terrain. Full sewer hookups at individual sites are not standard at this Corps facility, so campers use the central dump station on the way out.
Petit Jean State Park offers a mix of pull-through and back-in sites with both electric-only and full-hookup options. Check-in and check-out are both 3:00 p.m., and sites are limited to eight people and two structures such as one RV and one tent.
Private RV parks near Conway typically offer full hookups, laundry, and Wi-Fi, though signal strength varies. Cell coverage is generally strong along the I-40 corridor and thins in the river bottoms and on top of Petit Jean Mountain.

cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goHow much should I budget for fuel on a Conway RV trip?
Fuel is very manageable in Arkansas, which consistently ranks among the cheaper states for gasoline and diesel. Expect Class C motorhomes to average 8-10 miles per gallon (MPG), Class B campervans 16-20 MPG, and tow setups with travel trailers around 10-12 MPG depending on rig size. With Conway-area pump prices typically running below the national average, a 300-mile weekend loop to Petit Jean and Hot Springs in a Class C usually costs $90-$130 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up at the Pilot or Love's near the Highway 65/I-40 interchange before heading west — prices climb the closer you get to remote campgrounds like Mount Magazine or the Buffalo National River.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I reserve a campground near Conway?
For the most popular spots, book early and you will lock in the campsite you actually want. Arkansas State Parks like Petit Jean, Woolly Hollow, and Lake Catherine accept reservations through the official Arkansas State Parks reservation system, and prime spring and fall weekends often fill 3 to 6 months ahead. Toad Suck Park (U.S. Army Corps of Engineers) books through Recreation.gov, up to 6 months out. Private parks like Fort Javelin and Camp Conway are more flexible and can often accommodate bookings a week or two out. Tip: if Petit Jean is full, check for cancellations on Sunday evenings, when no-shows are released back into the system.
arkansasstateparks.com/reservationsWhat are the local driving conditions like around Conway?
Conway is one of the friendlier Arkansas cities for RV driving. The street grid is flat, Interstate 40 and Highway 65 are wide and well-maintained, and most campgrounds sit within a 15-minute drive of an interstate exit. Heads-up for two things: weekday rush hour on I-40 between Conway and North Little Rock (7-9 AM and 4-6 PM) can slow you down, and severe spring thunderstorms with possible tornadoes are common from March through May, so check the National Weather Service Little Rock forecast each morning. If you're driving up to Petit Jean, the climb on Highway 154 is steady but very manageable in any modern RV. Take it easy on the descent and use a lower gear.
idrivearkansas.com/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Conway?
Local campgrounds are well-equipped for any RV camping Conway adventure. Toad Suck Park offers 48 sites with electric and water hookups (30/50 amp), hot showers, flush toilets, a dump station, and an Arkansas River boat ramp. Petit Jean State Park provides 125 sites with 35 full-hookup (50-amp sewer) sites, Wi-Fi in each loop, two swimming pools, and 20+ miles of hiking trails. For dumping and water fills between campgrounds, Toad Suck Park's central dump station is the most reliable option in the immediate Conway area. Most campgrounds also welcome generator use during posted quiet-hour exceptions.

A typical motorhome rental in Conway includes a queen or king bed plus convertible dinette or sofa beds, a full kitchen with refrigerator, microwave, propane stove, and sink, a bathroom with shower and toilet, roof and dash air conditioning, a furnace, and a generator on most Class A and Class C rigs. Many hosts also include a flat-screen TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and seatbelted seating for travel. Each add-on has a transparent fee listed on the host's page, so there are no surprises. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Conway, but many hosts offer delivery to your campground or to Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport in Little Rock for an extra fee. Review the mileage policy and confirm pickup and dropoff times when you book.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Conway%2C%20ArkansasHow does payment and the security deposit work for a Conway RV rental?
Payment is straightforward and fully handled through the RVezy platform, so you never exchange cash or cards with the host. When you book a motorhome rental Conway listing, you will pay the rental total, protection plan, taxes, and any add-on fees securely online. A refundable security deposit is held separately from the booking payment (the amount is shown clearly on the listing before you confirm) and released back to your card after the trip, assuming the RV is returned clean, on time, and damage-free. Tip: do a quick walk-through video with the host at pickup and dropoff. It takes two minutes and protects everyone, helping ensure your full deposit comes back without delays.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I legally park an RV overnight in Conway outside of campgrounds?
You have a few solid options if you need a quick overnight stop while figuring out where to park an RV in Conway. Many Walmart Supercenters allow free overnight RV parking with manager permission, so call ahead to confirm at the Conway location. The Love's and Pilot Travel Centers near the I-40 exits are RV-friendly and have fuel and amenities. Conway does not allow extended overnight street parking for RVs in residential neighborhoods, so stick to commercial lots or campgrounds. For a more scenic overnight close by, Toad Suck Park has affordable Army Corps sites just 10 minutes away. Be respectful: arrive late, leave early, and support the host business.
