Campgrounds near Danville, Arkansas
Danville sits in Yell County in the Arkansas River Valley, framed by the Ouachita National Forest to the south and the Ozarks to the north. It works well as an RV base because several distinct camping styles fall within a short drive: private RV parks, an Arkansas State Parks lakefront campground, and a historic mountain-top state park.
Rising 1,350 feet above the Arkansas River valley, Mount Nebo State Park offers panoramic views of Lake Dardanelle, the river, and surrounding mountain ridges. To the northeast, Lake Dardanelle State Park is located in two areas on Lake Dardanelle, a 34,300-acre reservoir on the Arkansas River, with the main visitor facilities and largest campground on the Russellville side.
Closer private options include Whispering Springs Retreat, Arkansas in nearby Belleville, The Weekender Cabins & RV Retreat, and Mission RV Park. These smaller operations are useful for travelers who want simple hookups close to town rather than the amenities of a full state park.
Things to do near Danville
The area centers on water, trails, and forest. Lake Dardanelle is the main draw for boating, paddling, and fishing, and the Russellville site includes a Sport Fishing Weigh-in Pavilion, a fishing pier, swimming beach, boardwalk, trail, and visitor center with aquariums. Park interpreters lead lake tours and family programs from the visitor center.
On Mount Nebo, the 1930s-era Civilian Conservation Corps constructed many of the rustic-style cabins, pavilions, bridges, and miles of hiking and mountain biking trails. The Mount Nebo Monument Trails offer mountain bikers roughly 24 miles of singletrack, hang gliders launch from the bluffs, and the swimming pool and tennis courts give families rainy-day options.
South of Danville, the Ouachita National Forest adds hiking, OHV riding, and creek fishing within a short drive.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons for camping around Danville. Spring brings green-up and wildflowers along with the wettest stretch of the year, and severe thunderstorms are common from March through May, so pack rain gear and know where the bathhouse is.
Summer is hot and humid in the river valley, and shaded, hookup sites go quickly on holiday weekends. Even though Mount Nebo sits at a higher elevation, it still gets warm and sticky in July and August, so most hikers start early in the day. Bugs and afternoon thunderstorms are routine from June through August.
Fall delivers the region's most reliable camping weather, with crisp mornings and hardwood color through October and into early November. Winter camping is possible year-round at both state parks and most private parks, but expect reduced ranger programming, shorter visitor-center hours, and cold snaps that can bring freezing rain.
How to book campgrounds near Danville
Arkansas State Parks sites are booked through the state's central reservation system at ArkansasStateParks.com or by phone. Campsites and cabins can be reserved up to one year in advance of the arrival date, and weekend stays require a two-night minimum, with three nights on holiday weekends. Mount Nebo State Park has 15 cabins and 34 campsites available year-round. Lake Dardanelle State Park has 57 campsites in the Russellville area (16 Class AAA, 14 Class AA, and 27 Class B) plus 18 Class B sites in the Dardanelle area.
Private campgrounds including Whispering Springs Retreat, Arkansas, The Weekender Cabins & RV Retreat, and Mission RV Park are booked directly through the operator. Weekends in spring and fall fill first, so lock in dates several weeks out for hookup sites.
What to expect
Sites in the Russellville area of Lake Dardanelle State Park skew modern and RV-friendly. The campground has modern restrooms and bathhouses, a sanitary dump station, picnic pavilions, and boat ramps; stores and a gift shop sell snacks, drinks, firewood, ice, and camping supplies. Cell reception is generally good, but the park does not have its own Wi-Fi.
Mount Nebo requires more planning for larger rigs. State Highway 155 into the park has many tight hairpin turns, and trailers and RVs longer than 24 feet are not recommended on the climb. There is no dump station at the park.
Private parks near Danville tend to be smaller and quieter, with basic hookups, gravel pads, and easy access to riding and hiking trails.

Use the Delivery filter when searching, and message the host with your campground name and site number. Pro tip: delivery is a game-changer for first time renting an RV, you skip the towing learning curve and start your Arkansas trip already parked with the awning out.

nps.gov/hosp/index.htmWhere are the best campgrounds near Danville, AR?

Lake Nimrod offers four Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds: Quarry Cove, County Line, Carter Cove, and River Road, all with electric and water hookups right on the water. Cove Lake Recreation Area at the base of Mount Magazine has shaded lakeside sites with hookups and a swim beach. For elevation, Mount Magazine State Park campground sits at 2,753 feet with full hookups and the best sunset views in Arkansas. Pro tip: Corps of Engineers sites at Lake Nimrod book through Recreation.gov, often six months out for summer weekends, so reserve early for your Danville RV trip.
recreation.gov/camping/gateways/2984When is the best time for RV camping in Danville?

Summer (June-August) is hot and humid with highs in the low-to-mid 90s, but lake swimming makes it worth it. Winters are mild with 50°F days, great for budget travelers who want quiet campgrounds. Pro tip: book the third weekend of October at Mount Magazine for the best leaf-peeping perch in the state.
weather.gov/lzk/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving around Danville?
You'll do great, and Danville is actually a perfect place for first time renting an RV. Highway 10 and Highway 27 through Yell County are wide, lightly trafficked two-lane roads with gentle curves, ideal for getting comfortable behind the wheel. Every host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering the generator, slide-outs, leveling, and tank dumping, and you can message them with questions anytime during your trip. ardot.gov/travel-information/What happens if my RV breaks down near Danville?
You're covered: every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance with the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on Highway 10 or a battery hiccup at Carter Cove won't derail your trip. One call dispatches help whether you're in cell range in Danville or deeper in the Ouachita National Forest. You can also message your host directly through the RVezy app for quick troubleshooting, many issues turn out to be a tripped breaker or a closed propane valve. Pro tip: snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate at pickup and save it to your phone, it speeds up any roadside call dramatically.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Danville RV rental across state lines?

You can roll into Oklahoma's Talimena Scenic Drive in about two hours, reach Missouri's Branson area in roughly four, or head south to Texas in five. Travel to Mexico is not permitted because protection coverage doesn't extend there. Always confirm your route with the host through the app before booking so they know your plan. Pro tip: the Talimena National Scenic Byway from Mena, AR into Oklahoma is a 54-mile ridgetop drive that's stunning in October, and it's only 90 minutes from Danville.
fs.usda.gov/recarea/ouachita/recarea/?recid=10833What kind of fuel mileage should I expect, and how much will gas cost?
Realistic expectations make budgeting easy. Class C motorhomes around Danville average 8-10 MPG, Class A's run 6-8 MPG, campervans get 14-18 MPG, and a travel trailer pulled by a truck typically returns 10-13 MPG. Arkansas gas prices tend to sit below the national average, often $2.80-$3.30 per gallon, with the cheapest stations usually in Russellville (30 minutes north) or Dardanelle. Pro tip: fill up in Russellville before heading into the Ouachita National Forest, gas options thin out fast once you pass Booneville heading west, and you don't want to coast into Mena on fumes.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book campgrounds near Danville?
Plan ahead and you'll have your pick. Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds at Lake Nimrod (Quarry Cove, County Line, Carter Cove, River Road) book through Recreation.gov and open reservations six months out, summer weekends and Memorial Day fill within hours. Mount Magazine State Park and Petit Jean State Park reservations open 13 months ahead through ArkansasStateParks.com and the fall foliage weekends in October go fastest. Pro tip: if you're flexible, Sunday through Thursday nights almost always have openings even in peak season, and many hosts will discount weeknight RV camping Danville bookings to match.
recreation.gov/camping/gateways/2984What are driving conditions like around Danville?
Mostly easy and beautiful. Highway 10 through Danville is a flat, well-maintained two-lane state highway, and Highway 7 (one of America's most scenic byways) runs north-south just east of town with gentle grades. The one driver to respect is Scenic Highway 309 climbing to Mount Magazine, a steep, switchback-heavy 14-mile ascent with 8% grades, go slow, use lower gears descending, and avoid it in icy weather. Summer thunderstorms can pop up fast in the Arkansas River Valley. Pro tip: check ARDOT's IDriveArkansas map the morning you travel for any road work or weather closures, especially before tackling 309.
idrivearkansas.com/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Danville?
You'll be comfortable. Lake Nimrod's Corps campgrounds offer 30/50-amp electric, water hookups, hot showers, flush toilets, and dump stations at each park entrance. Mount Magazine State Park has full hookups (electric, water, sewer) at every RV site plus a visitor center with laundry. Cove Lake has electric and water with a centralized dump station. For dumping and filling between trips, the Pilot Travel Center in Russellville (I-40 exit 81) offers public dump and potable water fills. Pro tip: top off fresh water before leaving the campground, the boondocking pull-offs along Highway 7 south of Ola are gorgeous but completely dry.

Popular add-ons include generators ($25-50/day), bike racks, kayaks or paddleboards (perfect for Lake Nimrod), camp chair and table kits, linen packages ($30-75 flat), and propane top-offs. Pickup is usually at the host's location in Danville, Dardanelle, or Russellville, with a 60-90 minute walkthrough included. Mileage policies vary, some offer 100 free miles per day, others provide unlimited mileage. Pro tip: ask about the kayak add-on if you're heading to Lake Nimrod, paddling the Fourche LaFave River arm at sunrise is one of the most underrated experiences in Yell County.
swl.usace.army.mil/Missions/Recreation/Lakes/Nimrod-Lake/How does payment and the security deposit work?
It's straightforward and secure. You pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host, which keeps your trip protected. A refundable security deposit is held (not charged) on your card at the start of your trip, typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the RV's value, and released after return once the host confirms there's no damage or excessive cleaning. Pro tip: do a quick walkaround video at both pickup and dropoff, timestamped on your phone. It takes two minutes and is the best way to avoid any deposit disputes on your Danville RV trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksIs Danville a good base for a family RV trip?
It's an excellent one. A family RV trip Danville offers swimming and fishing on Lake Nimrod, easy hikes for kids at Mount Nebo State Park (just 20 miles east), the Cameron Bluff Overlook at Mount Magazine for jaw-dropping photos, and the Arkansas River trails right in Dardanelle. Most family-sized rentals sleep 6-8 with bunk beds the kids will fight over (in a good way). Cove Lake's swim beach is shallow and lifeguard-free but family-favorite. Pro tip: pack headlamps and book a Saturday at Mount Magazine State Park, the rangers run free junior naturalist programs and stargazing nights that consistently top kids' trip highlights.
