Campgrounds near Desha, Arkansas
Desha sits in Independence County in north-central Arkansas, within reach of the Ozark foothills, the White River, and the tailwaters of the Little Red River below Greers Ferry Dam. The area is a well-known base for trout fishing, boating, and river camping, and most RV-friendly campgrounds cluster along the rivers rather than in town.
Close-in options include Rock Town RV Campground and, a short drive south toward Heber Springs, Red River Trout Dock, a riverfront property on the Little Red River offering cabin rentals, RV camping, a fishing dock, and guide service. Lindseys Resort on the Little Red River and other family-operated riverfront properties in Heber Springs add cabin and RV combinations, while Heber Springs RV Park serves travelers who want quick access to Greers Ferry Lake.
East of Desha near Newport, Jacksonport State Park offers 20 Class A campsites with water and 50-amp electric hookups, a swimming beach on the White River, a pavilion, picnic sites, a playground, a boat ramp, and the half-mile Tunstall Riverwalk, giving RV travelers a state-run alternative on the White River.
Things to do around Desha
Fishing drives most trips. The Little Red River is a tailwater trout fishery that produced the IGFA world record brown trout in 1992, a 40-pound, 4-ounce fish caught by Rip Collins near Heber Springs, and guide services, boat rentals, and bait shops are easy to find along the river corridor.
Beyond fishing, families can swim, paddle, and hike. Jacksonport State Park pairs Arkansas river-port history at its visitor center and 1872 courthouse museum with outdoor recreation on the White River, including a swimming beach, the Tunstall Riverwalk Trail, a boat ramp, and picnicking. Greers Ferry Lake, west of Heber Springs, adds open-water boating, marinas, and beach access, while JFK Park below the dam is a popular day-use stop for shoreline fishing and river views.

The Desha area has a humid subtropical climate. Batesville, the nearest reporting station, sees hot, humid summers, mild winters, and rain spread through the year, averaging around 49 inches annually. Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV camping, with warm days, cool nights, and lower humidity than mid-summer.
Summer brings the biggest crowds to Greers Ferry Lake and the Little Red River, so riverfront sites at private resorts and state parks fill early. Thunderstorms are frequent but usually brief, and winters are mild with only about six inches of snow on average, though Ozark cold fronts can drop temperatures quickly.
Winter is the quietest season. Jacksonport State Park stays open year-round for camping, with flush restrooms available March through November. Trout fishing on the Little Red continues through the cold months, and several private resorts operate year-round outside of brief holiday closures.
How to book a site near Desha
State park sites at Jacksonport are booked through the Arkansas State Parks reservation system at reserve.arkansasstateparks.com, which handles specific-site selection, deposits, and cancellation policies. Individual reservations may be made up to 12 months in advance of the arrival date. Weekend stays require a two-night minimum, and three-day holiday weekends require three nights.
Private resorts along the Little Red River, including Red River Trout Dock and Lindseys Resort on the Little Red River, take direct reservations by phone or through their own websites. Rock Town RV Campground and Heber Springs RV Park should also be booked directly with the operator. Guided fishing trips, boat rentals, and cabins are usually reserved separately from RV sites, so travelers should confirm hookup type, site length, and pet policies at booking.
What to expect on the ground
Most RV campgrounds near Desha are small and river-oriented rather than resort-style. Riverfront operators such as Red River Trout Dock offer a mix of RV sites, cabins, and tent spots with hookups and bathhouses on site. Expect gravel or grass pads, tree cover, and short walks to the water.
At Jacksonport State Park, all 20 Class A sites have water and 50-amp electric, a dump station sits near the park exit, and flush restrooms with showers are open March through November. Sites are level, many back onto the White River, and cell service is generally usable but can dip along river bottoms.
The posted RV length limit at Jacksonport is 45 feet, so drivers of larger Class A or fifth-wheel rigs should confirm site length and turning radius before arriving, especially at smaller private resorts.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Desha, AR
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Desha, Arkansas?
RV rental in Desha is one of the most affordable ways to explore north-central Arkansas, with most travel trailers starting around $90 to $150 per night and Class C motorhomes typically ranging from $175 to $275 per night. Because Desha sits in a rural part of Independence County between Batesville and Newport, nightly rates often come in lower than around Little Rock or major Ozark tourist hubs. To score a cheap RV rental in Desha, book midweek, target shoulder seasons like late March or early November, and compare hosts side by side using the price filter. Booking 5 or more nights frequently unlocks a host weekly discount, and bundling delivery can save fuel costs. Add it all up and your Desha RV trip can easily come in under a comparable hotel-plus-rental-car budget.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Desha%2C%20ArkansasWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Desha, Arkansas?
Good news: a standard driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Desha, Arkansas. Arkansas does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for personal-use motorhomes and travel trailers, so the same license you use for your car works for a Class B campervan, Class C, or most Class A rigs on RVezy. Renters generally need to be 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID through the platform during checkout, so there is no extra paperwork. Visiting from overseas? Bring your home country's license along with an International Driving Permit before you travel. Most first-time renters are pleasantly surprised by how straightforward the process is.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs my Desha RV rental protected if something goes wrong?
Yes, every RV rental in Desha booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan built right into your reservation, so you can head to the White River or Greers Ferry Lake with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers most damage to the vehicle, and 24/7 roadside assistance is included at no extra charge. During checkout, you choose the protection level that fits your trip, from a budget-friendly basic plan to a more comprehensive upgrade. Hosts do not pick this for you, so you stay in control of your coverage. While not the same as personal auto insurance, it provides substantial financial protection: helpful backup when you're driving rural Highway 167 or exploring back roads through Independence County.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is RVezy's cancellation policy for a Desha RV rental?
Booking your Desha RV trip is low-risk because RVezy applies a clear, guest-friendly cancellation policy to every reservation, including a grace period after booking when you can cancel for a full refund. After that window, the refund amount depends on how far in advance you cancel relative to your pickup date. Hosts do not set this policy, RVezy does, so you get the same fair terms no matter which listing you choose. If your plans change, message your host first to see if a date change is possible, then contact RVezy support if you need to cancel. Full details are on the RVezy Help Center so you'll know exactly where you stand before you commit.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Desha?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental in Desha is easy to find on RVezy. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on the search page and you'll see listings from local hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats) along for the ride. Many hosts charge a small pet fee or extra cleaning deposit, which is shown on the listing before you book. Your pup will love the area too: the Sylamore Scenic Byway and trails in the Ozark-St. Francis National Forest north of Desha are great for leashed walks, and most Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds in the region allow pets. Tip: message the host before booking to confirm your specific pet, and bring a portable crate so your four-legged copilot has a familiar space inside the rig.
fs.usda.gov/main/osfnf/homeCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Desha?
Yes, RV delivery in Desha is offered by many hosts on RVezy, and it's one of the smartest options for first-time renters. Instead of driving the rig yourself, the host hauls it to your chosen campground, RV park, or private property, levels it, hooks up power and water, and walks you through every system before they leave. Popular drop-off spots include Jacksonport State Park on the White River and Corps of Engineers parks near Batesville. Delivery fees vary by distance, typically a flat fee plus a per-mile rate, and they appear clearly on the listing before you book. Use the delivery filter on RVezy's search page to quickly find hosts who offer this service.
arkansasstateparks.com/parks/jacksonport-state-parkHow far can I drive on a Desha RV rental and what about mileage limits?
Most hosts in Desha include 100 to 150 free miles per night with your RV rental, which is plenty for exploring the White River, Greers Ferry Lake, and the southern Ozarks. If you're planning a longer Arkansas RV trip, look for listings tagged with unlimited mileage, or message the host to add a larger mileage package upfront, which almost always costs less than paying overage fees at the end. For reference from Desha: Mountain View is about 45 miles north, Little Rock is roughly 95 miles south, Memphis is around 150 miles east, and Hot Springs National Park is approximately 165 miles southwest. Map out your route in advance and you'll know exactly which mileage tier makes sense.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Desha%2C%20ArkansasWhere can I camp with an RV near Desha, Arkansas?
You have great options for RV camping near Desha. A few favorites: Jacksonport State Park (about 25 miles east) offers Class AAA sites with full hookups along the White River; Corps of Engineers parks near Batesville provide shaded sites with electric and water; campgrounds at Greers Ferry Lake (about 50 miles west) are popular for swimming and fishing; and private parks in Mountain View put you close to the Ozark Folk Center. Reserve federal sites through Recreation.gov up to six months in advance, and Arkansas State Parks through ArkansasStateParks.com. Tip: weekends during fall foliage fill up fast, so lock in your campsite before confirming your RVezy dates.
recreation.gov/When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Desha?
The sweet spot for a Desha RV trip is mid-April through late May and again from late September through early November, when daytime highs sit in a comfortable 70 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit range and humidity drops. Summers in this part of Arkansas are hot and humid, with July highs averaging in the low 90s, so look for a rig with strong air conditioning and shaded campsites if you go then. October is a local insider pick: the hardwoods along the White River turn gold and red, biting insects fade, and campgrounds are quieter. Winters are mild with highs typically 45 to 55 degrees Fahrenheit, making them viable for snowbirds with a heated RV. Whatever season you pick, book your rental two to three months ahead for the best selection.
weather.gov/lzk/I've never rented an RV before. Will I know what I'm doing in Desha?
Yes, and Desha is a great place to learn. First-time renting an RV in Desha is straightforward because every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through the generator, slide-outs, water system, propane, dumping, and driving tips for the specific rig you've chosen. You can message the host before booking with any questions, and many will share a walkthrough video in advance. Desha's quiet rural roads and flat highways are forgiving for new drivers, especially compared to mountain passes out west. If you'd rather skip the driving entirely, book a host who offers delivery and setup so you arrive at the campsite to a fully ready rig. The learning curve is smaller than you think.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002180454-Renting-an-RVWhat happens if my RV breaks down during my Desha trip?
Take a deep breath, you're covered. Every RV rental in Desha booked on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on Highway 167, a dead battery at Jacksonport State Park, or a stuck slide-out near Mountain View is a phone call away from being handled. Roadside assistance covers items like tows, jump-starts, tire changes, lockouts, and fuel delivery. Your host is your first point of contact for anything RV-specific, and most local Desha hosts respond quickly because they're nearby. RVezy's support team is also reachable around the clock. Save both numbers in your phone before you pull out and you'll feel confident on the road.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Desha RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is welcome on most RVezy rentals from Desha, which makes it a fantastic launchpad for an Arkansas RV road trip. From Desha you can easily reach Memphis (about 150 miles east), Branson, Missouri (about 140 miles north), St. Louis (about 320 miles north), or even New Orleans (around 540 miles south). Travel into Canada is allowed by many hosts as long as you let them know in advance so insurance and paperwork are squared away. One important note: travel into Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals because protection coverage does not extend across that border. Message the host before booking with your route and they'll confirm everything in writing through the RVezy chat.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Desha RV trip?
Fuel is usually the biggest variable on any RV trip, but it's manageable from Desha because Arkansas gas prices typically run below the national average. Most Class C motorhomes get 8 to 10 mpg, travel trailers pulled by a truck get 10 to 13 mpg combined, and Class B campervans can reach 18 to 20 mpg. For a 500-mile loop through the Ozarks at current Arkansas pump prices, plan on roughly $150 to $225 in fuel for a Class C. Tip: fill up in Batesville or Newport before heading into the hills where small-town stations can be pricier. Apps like GasBuddy will flag the cheapest stops along Highways 167 and 67. Build in a daily fuel buffer and you'll cruise stress-free.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Desha?
For the best campsites near Desha, book 3 to 6 months ahead, especially for holiday weekends, peak fall foliage in October, or trout-fishing season on the White River. Arkansas State Parks (like Jacksonport and Old Davidsonville) take reservations through ArkansasStateParks.com up to 13 months in advance, and Army Corps of Engineers parks book through Recreation.gov up to 6 months out. For private RV parks in Mountain View and Batesville, calling directly often beats online booking. Local tip: midweek arrivals on Sunday or Monday give you the pick of waterfront sites that get snapped up by Thursday. Once your campsite is locked in, confirm your RVezy rental dates so everything lines up.
recreation.gov/What are driving conditions like around Desha, Arkansas?
Driving conditions around Desha are about as RV-friendly as Arkansas gets. Most local roads are lightly trafficked rural highways like US-167 and AR-69, which feel calm even in a 30-foot Class C. As you head west toward Mountain View and the Ozarks, expect winding two-lane roads with some grades, so take it slow and use lower gears on downhills. Watch for occasional logging trucks, deer at dawn and dusk, and spring thunderstorms that can roll in quickly. Winter ice storms happen every few years and can briefly close roads, so check the National Weather Service Little Rock forecast before any December through February trip. Otherwise, this region is wonderfully easy to navigate.
weather.gov/lzk/What hookups and amenities will I find at campgrounds near Desha?
Most developed campgrounds near Desha offer the essentials for a comfortable stay. Arkansas State Parks like Jacksonport provide 30/50-amp electric, water, and sewer at Class AAA sites, plus dump stations, hot showers, and potable water fill-ups. Army Corps of Engineers parks along the White River typically offer electric and water, with central dump stations. Private parks in Mountain View and Batesville often add Wi-Fi, laundry, and propane refills. For boondocking or dispersed camping in the Ozark-St. Francis National Forest, plan to arrive with full fresh water and empty waste tanks. Tip: confirm hookup type (30 vs 50 amp) with your host so you have the right adapter on hand.
arkansasstateparks.com/parks/jacksonport-state-parkWhat's included inside a typical Desha RV rental?
Step inside a Desha RV rental and you'll find pretty much everything you need to live comfortably on the road. Expect a queen or king bed plus convertible sleeping for 4 to 8, a full kitchen (fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control via roof AC and furnace, and seatbelted travel seats. Most rigs include a TV, and many hosts offer Wi-Fi hotspots, generators, or solar as options. Linens, kitchenware, outdoor chairs, and BBQs are commonly included or available as add-ons, so check the listing's amenities list to see exactly what's bundled. Campervan rental options in Desha are more compact but still pack kitchens and beds into a nimble footprint that's perfect for solo travelers or couples exploring the back roads.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Desha%2C%20ArkansasWhat add-ons can I get with my motorhome rental in Desha?
Motorhome rental listings in Desha come with plenty of optional extras to customize your trip. Popular add-ons include linens and towel packages, kitchen kits, camp chairs and outdoor rugs, portable grills, bike racks, generators, and extra mileage packages. Some hosts even offer pre-stocked pantry boxes and fishing gear for White River anglers. For pickup and dropoff, you'll typically meet the host for a 30 to 60 minute walkthrough, or pay a delivery fee to have the RV brought to your campsite. Most hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, with extra miles available to purchase upfront at a discount. Check each listing's add-on list and message the host with any custom requests before booking.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Desha%2C%20ArkansasHow does payment and the security deposit work on an RVezy rental in Desha?
Payment is handled securely through the RVezy platform from start to finish, so you never hand cash or a card directly to the host. When you book your RV rental in Arkansas, you pay your total trip cost (rental fees, protection plan, taxes, and any add-ons) through your credit card or supported payment method on the site. A refundable security deposit is pre-authorized on your card before pickup and released after the trip once the host confirms no damage. To avoid issues, take time-stamped photos of the RV inside and out at both pickup and dropoff, return with full fuel and empty waste tanks as agreed, and keep all communication inside RVezy's messaging.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat are the best road trip destinations from Desha, Arkansas?
An RV road trip from Desha puts some of the South's best scenery within an easy day's drive. Top picks: Mountain View and the Ozark Folk Center (about 45 miles north) for live folk music and nearby Blanchard Springs Caverns; Greers Ferry Lake (about 50 miles west) for clear-water swimming and winter bald eagle viewing; Hot Springs National Park (about 165 miles southwest) for thermal baths and Bathhouse Row; Memphis, Tennessee (about 150 miles east) for Beale Street and Graceland; and Branson, Missouri (about 140 miles north) for family entertainment and the Table Rock Lake area. For a longer family RV trip, Desha makes a great base, and you can loop scenic Ozark byways over 4 to 5 days. Map your route, lock in campsites, and let the road do the rest.
