Campgrounds and RV parks near DeWitt, AR

The Dale Bumpers White River National Wildlife Refuge is the main draw. It is home to Arkansas' only native population of black bears and is designated as a Wetland of International Importance. The visitor center on South CC Camp Road in St. Charles has wildlife and ecology exhibits and serves as a good first stop, with hundreds of miles of trails and dozens of lakes and bayous open to fishing and wildlife observation. Eastward, Mississippi River State Park and the surrounding St. Francis National Forest offer three lakes and multiple hiking trails where hardwood forests meet the Delta. Storm Creek Lake and nearby Bear Creek Lake are stocked with largemouth and hybrid striped bass, crappie, bluegill, and channel and blue catfish. The area sits on the Mississippi Flyway, so waterfowl and songbird viewing is strong in fall and winter.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel around DeWitt. March through May brings mild temperatures, wildflowers, and active birdlife, though it is also a wet stretch of the year on the Grand Prairie, with frequent thunderstorms. April and May in particular can deliver several inches of rain in a single event, so low-lying refuge roads and primitive camps may flood. Summer is long, hot, and humid, with daytime highs regularly near 90 degrees Fahrenheit and warm, sticky nights. Biting insects are heaviest June through August, and the swim beach at Storm Creek Lake operates only from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Fall is prime time. Cooler temperatures, fewer bugs, and peak color in the bottomland hardwoods coincide with the start of waterfowl migration along the Mississippi Flyway. Winter is short but wet, and portions of the White River refuge have restricted access during waterfowl hunting seasons, so travelers should check current refuge regulations before planning a winter stay.

Expect a mix of hookup levels. Storm Creek Lake Recreational Area, rebuilt between 2020 and 2022, now offers 11 full-hookup campsites with electricity, water, and sewer, three walk-in tent sites with electricity and shared water, and five camper cabins served by a modern four-unit bathhouse with hot showers. Lone Pine, by contrast, is primitive: 14 sites with picnic tables, tent pads, fire rings, and grills, with vault toilets, water, and no showers or hookups. Refuge camping is fully primitive. Roughly 19 designated sites are scattered across the refuge with no facilities, generators and other disturbances are prohibited between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m., and campers gather downed wood on site rather than bringing firewood in. Isle Of Capri Casino RV Park is a paved, full-hookup lot best treated as a convenient overnight stop rather than a scenic destination.
