Camping near Elkins, Arkansas
Elkins sits just east of Fayetteville in the northwest corner of Arkansas, at the edge of the Ozark Plateau. The town works well as a base for RV renters heading into Fayetteville, Bentonville, Beaver Lake, and the surrounding national forest, with Interstate 49 and US Highway 62 both within a short drive.
Private RV parks cluster close to town. Southgate RV Park of Fayetteville and NWA Hideaway sit closest, followed by Hog Valley RV and Treehouse Resort. Farther north near Beaver Lake, Monte Ne RV Park and The Creeks Golf and RV Resort offer larger-footprint sites with resort amenities.
Public land options are within an easy drive. Devil's Den State Park offers over 100 campsites with a mix of Class AAA hookup sites, Class D sites without hookups, tent-only bike-in sites, and a horse camp with hookups. Beaver Lake has 11 Corps of Engineers campgrounds ranging from developed sites with full facilities to primitive backcountry areas.
Things to do around Elkins
Beaver Lake is the region's main water draw. The lake has more than 28,000 surface acres, and anglers target largemouth and smallmouth bass, crappie, bream, white bass, stripers, and channel or spoonbill catfish. Boat ramps, marinas, and swim beaches are spread along the shoreline. Just below the dam, the cold waters of the upper White River provide habitat for rainbow and German brown trout.
Hiking and mountain biking are the other headline activities. Devil's Den State Park features Monument Trails, a purpose-built system for accessing Ozark ridges and creek valleys, plus the 15-mile Butterfield Hiking Trail. The paved Razorback Greenway links Fayetteville and Bentonville for road cyclists and families.
In town, Fayetteville offers the University of Arkansas campus, a weekend farmers market on the downtown square, and the Botanical Garden of the Ozarks.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel. Daytime temperatures sit in a comfortable range for hiking and lakeside camping, and the fall color show across the Ozarks typically peaks from mid-October into early November. Spring is the wettest stretch, with May bringing the heaviest monthly rainfall and a peak in severe thunderstorm and tornado activity across northwest Arkansas.
Summer is peak booking season at Beaver Lake and Devil's Den. Days are hot and humid with afternoon thunderstorms, and lake campgrounds fill on holiday weekends. Reserve well ahead for Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day. The pool at Devil's Den is open in summer only, and Corps of Engineers campgrounds around Beaver Lake are busiest June through August.
Winter is the quiet season. Freezes are routine at night and some park amenities close, though the Devil's Den campground stays open year-round with some services reduced. Snow is possible but usually light, averaging around seven inches for the year.

Scott was great to work with and adjusted our last minute add on date. Very communicative and would recommend booking with him again. RV was great, well maintained, clean and perfect for our family too getaway for vacation. Would definitely book him again in the future!

We stayed over Memorial Day weekend with our family and had the BEST experience! We rented an RV for 3 adults and 3 kids, and it was the perfect size with plenty of room for everyone. Everything was super clean and fully stocked — pillows, bedding, and honestly anything you could possibly need was included. But our absolute favorite part was the outdoor kitchen. I genuinely don’t think we can ever rent an RV again without one now! The griddle was AMAZING and made cooking so easy and fun. We’ve officially become bougie RV campers now. 😂 Could not have asked for a better stay. Highly recommend!

Amazing trip in the RV owned by Jesus! He was a great host/owner and was super easy to work with. If we can make it to AR again, we'll definitely connect/reach out to him!

How to book campgrounds near Elkins
Public and private campgrounds use different systems. Corps of Engineers campgrounds around Beaver Lake are booked through Recreation.gov or by calling 1-877-444-6777. Check-in at Beaver Lake sites is 4:00 p.m. and check-out is 1:00 p.m., and a 14-day stay limit applies at any Beaver Lake site within any 30-day period.
Arkansas State Parks, including Devil's Den, use their own reservation system with a 3:00 p.m. check-in and 3:00 p.m. check-out, plus a non-refundable deposit equal to the first night's rate. Reservations can be made up to a year in advance, same-day reservations are also available, and weekends require a minimum two-night stay.
Private parks such as Southgate RV Park of Fayetteville, NWA Hideaway, Hog Valley RV and Treehouse Resort, Monte Ne RV Park, and The Creeks Golf and RV Resort typically book direct through their own websites or by phone.
What to expect on the ground
The landscape is Ozark hill country: towering limestone bluffs, natural caves, and a mix of hardwood and evergreen forest, with narrow, winding roads leading to some of the more remote campgrounds. Big rigs should check length and turning limits before booking backcountry sites at Beaver Lake or the no-hookup loops at Devil's Den, where the maximum RV length is 55 feet.
Wildlife is part of the deal. Deer, wild turkey, black bear, and armadillo are all present in the region. Store food inside the RV and keep coolers latched. Ticks and chiggers are active from spring through early fall, so long pants and repellent help on trails.
Cell service is patchy in the deeper valleys of the Boston Mountains around Devil's Den. Download maps ahead of time. Beaver Dam was built for flood control, hydroelectric power, and public water supply, so lake levels can shift; check current conditions before launching a boat.

If you're planning a bigger loop through Branson, MO (2 hours) or Hot Springs (4 hours), look for an unlimited-mileage listing or buy extra miles upfront, which is usually cheaper than the overage rate. Pro tip: map your full route before booking.
arkansas.com/elkinsWhere are the best campgrounds near Elkins, AR?

Pro tip: Arkansas State Parks accepts reservations up to 13 months in advance, so book popular summer weekends early.
arkansasstateparks.com/When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Elkins?

July and August are hot and humid (highs near 90°F), so plan early-morning hikes and rely on the RV's AC. Winter trips are possible too, with mild days in the 40s°F, but expect occasional ice storms in January and February. Time your visit to mid-October for peak Ozark fall color along Highway 23, the Pig Trail Scenic Byway.
weather.gov/tsa/I've never driven an RV. Will I be okay renting one in Elkins?
Yes, first time renting an RV in Elkins is easier than you'd think, and your host is your secret weapon. Every RVezy host gives you a full pre-trip walkthrough covering driving basics, how to level the rig, hookups, the awning, the propane, and the dump system, so you leave feeling confident. The roads around Elkins are mostly flat to gently rolling on US-62 and I-49, perfect for getting your bearings before tackling curvier routes like the Pig Trail. Choose a Class C motorhome or smaller travel trailer for an easy first drive. Pro tip: message your host with questions before booking, they love helping new renters succeed.
fmcsa.dot.gov/safety/driver-safety/cmv-driving-tips-following-too-closelyWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my Elkins trip?

help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take an Elkins RV rental across state lines or into Canada or Mexico?
Yes, an RV road trip from Elkins across state lines is fully allowed and very popular. You can easily reach Missouri (Branson is about 2 hours), Oklahoma (Tulsa is about 2 hours), Tennessee (Memphis is about 5 hours), and Texas (Dallas is about 5.5 hours). Travel to Canada may be allowed but requires advance approval from the host and confirmation that insurance coverage extends there, so message the host before booking if a cross-border trip is on your itinerary. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance and protection coverage do not extend there. A classic Elkins loop runs up through the Ozarks to Branson and back via Eureka Springs, all within about 250 miles.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on an Elkins RV trip?
Fuel is usually the second-biggest line item after the rental itself, but it's predictable. Most Class C motorhomes around Elkins get 8-10 MPG, Class B campervans 14-18 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually 10-12 MPG combined). Arkansas gas prices typically run a bit below the national average, with stations along US-62 and I-49 in Fayetteville and Springdale offering the best prices near Elkins. For a 4-day, 400-mile Ozark loop in a Class C, plan on roughly $150-$200 in fuel depending on current prices. Fill up in Springdale or Fayetteville before heading deeper into the Ozarks, where prices tend to climb in small towns.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Elkins?
For the best campgrounds near Elkins, book as early as you can, especially for weekends from May through October. Arkansas State Parks (Devil's Den, Hobbs, Withrow Springs) accept reservations up to 13 months ahead through their official reservation system, and prime sites at Devil's Den fill 4-6 months out for summer. U.S. Forest Service sites at Lake Wedington and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers sites on Beaver Lake book through Recreation.gov, also up to 6 months in advance. Weekday and shoulder-season trips are much easier. Pro tip: if you strike out on a Saturday, try a Sunday-Wednesday Elkins RV trip, you'll have your pick of sites and quieter trails.
recreation.gov/What are the local driving conditions like around Elkins?
Driving an RV around Elkins is mostly relaxed, with wide highways like US-62 and I-49 connecting you to Fayetteville and Bentonville in under 30 minutes. The classic Ozark adventure roads, Highway 23 (the Pig Trail) and Highway 16 toward the Buffalo River, are narrow, twisty, and steep in places, so take them slow in larger motorhomes and avoid them in heavy rain. Summer brings strong afternoon thunderstorms, and winter can deliver brief ice storms January-February, both worth checking before you roll. Pro tip: use a low-clearance and truck-route app, the historic Fayetteville Square area has a few low railroad bridges that surprise first-time RV drivers.
idrivearkansas.com/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Elkins?
Campgrounds near Elkins range from full-hookup resorts to rustic forest sites, so you'll find something for every comfort level. Devil's Den State Park and Hobbs State Park offer water and 30/50-amp electric, with dump stations on-site. Lake Wedington in the Ozark National Forest has electric sites but no sewer hookups (use the dump station before leaving). Most parks include picnic tables, fire rings, flush toilets, and hot showers, and Beaver Lake-area campgrounds add boat ramps and swim beaches. To refill fresh water and dump, Walmart-area travel plazas in Springdale and several state parks have free or low-cost dump stations. Pro tip: top off water in Elkins before heading deep into the Ozark National Forest.
fs.usda.gov/ozarkWhat's included inside a typical Elkins RV rental?
Elkins motorhome rentals and travel trailers come surprisingly well-equipped. Expect a full kitchen with fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, sink, and cookware, a bathroom with shower and toilet, comfortable sleeping for 2-8 depending on size, climate-controlled AC and furnace, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many hosts also include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, camp chairs, and a propane grill. Wifi and onboard generators are common in Class A and Class C motorhomes, ideal for working remotely from a lakeside site at Beaver Lake. Each listing on RVezy spells out exactly what's included. Pro tip: filter by sleeps count and amenities to find the right family RV trip Elkins setup in minutes.
nps.gov/buff/planyourvisit/camping.htmWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Hosts in Elkins typically offer helpful add-ons like camping kits (chairs, table, hammock), kitchen and linen packages, generators, bike racks, and even kayaks for paddling on Beaver Lake or the War Eagle River, usually $10-$50 each. Pickup is usually at the host's home in or near Elkins or Fayetteville, with a 30-60 minute orientation walkthrough, and many hosts offer delivery to nearby campgrounds for a per-mile fee. Each listing shows mileage allowances (often 100-150 free miles per night) and generator hours up front. Pro tip: book the propane fill add-on for stress-free cooking, it's cheap and saves you a trip to a refill station mid-vacation.
arkansas.com/things-to-do/outdoors-adventure/camping-rvHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment for your Elkins RV rental is handled securely through RVezy, so there's no cash or check exchange with the host. You pay your trip total at booking, and a refundable security deposit (typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the RV) is pre-authorized on your card a few days before pickup, not actually charged. After the trip, assuming the RV comes back in good shape with no policy violations, the hold is released, usually within a few days. To avoid issues, do a thorough walkaround with your host at pickup and dropoff and take date-stamped photos. Keep the gas and fresh-water tanks at the same levels you received them to dodge top-off fees.
