Campgrounds near Gillett, Arkansas
Gillett sits in south Arkansas County on the Grand Prairie, within the Arkansas Delta and along the Arkansas segment of the Great River Road National Scenic Byway. Nearby attractions include Arkansas Post National Memorial, Arkansas Post Museum State Park, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers projects along the Arkansas River. The surrounding landscape is flat, agricultural, and laced with oxbow lakes, bayous, and river bottoms.
RV options close to town are small and utility-focused. H and G RV Park and Campground and Dub'l R RV Park serve travelers passing through on Highway 165 and U.S. 79, while Pecan Grove RV Park offers another local base. About an hour south near Lake Village, Lake Chicot State Park anchors the region's larger, amenity-rich camping options on Arkansas's largest natural lake. Farther east across the Mississippi River near Helena, Isle Of Capri Casino RV Park in Lula adds a casino-adjacent hookup option for travelers combining a Delta itinerary with a stop on the Mississippi side.
Most travelers use Gillett as a quiet, low-cost stopover between Little Rock, Memphis, and the Louisiana Delta, or as a base for history, fishing, and birding trips.
Things to do near Gillett
History is the headline attraction. Arkansas Post sits near the confluence of rivers and has served as a gathering place for many cultures, and the national memorial offers short interpretive trails, picnic areas, and fishing access to oxbow lakes and bayous on site. The Arkansas Post Museum, a state-run complex, covers life on the Grand Prairie and in the Arkansas Delta and includes historic structures such as the Refeld-Hinman Loghouse.
Fishing is a major draw across the region. Lake Chicot provides excellent fishing year-round for bass, crappie, catfish, and bream, with open waters and quiet timber-lined shores. The park sits in one of the largest migratory flyways in the country, making it exceptional for birdwatching, and the on-site marina offers boat rentals including fishing boats, kayaks, and personal watercraft.
Cyclists can ride the levee, and families use the paved roads through Arkansas Post for easy walking and wildlife spotting.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel. Temperatures are mild, wildflowers and migratory birds move through the Delta, and mosquito pressure is lower than in mid-summer. Spring is also peak severe-weather season in Arkansas, with tornado risk highest from March through May as atmospheric instability builds. Campers should choose sites near a storm shelter, keep a weather radio on, and monitor NWS Little Rock alerts.
Summer brings heat, humidity, and heavy thunderstorms. Fishing and boating remain popular, and Lake Chicot State Park's seasonal pool operates on a limited schedule. Expect afternoon storms and biting insects, especially near bottomland forest and standing water.
Winter is quiet and mild by regional standards, with occasional cold snaps and the chance of ice. Lake Chicot State Park Campground is open year-round with reservations available, check-in and check-out are at 3:00 p.m., and stays are limited to 14 consecutive nights. Winter is also prime waterfowl season on the Grand Prairie, drawing hunters and birders to the flooded rice fields around Stuttgart and Gillett.
How to book
Private RV parks near Gillett, including H and G RV Park and Campground, Dub'l R RV Park, and Pecan Grove RV Park, are typically booked by phone or directly with the operator. Sites are small, and reservations are recommended around the Gillett Coon Supper in January and during duck season.
Lake Chicot State Park uses the Arkansas State Parks reservation system. Check-in and check-out time is 3:00 p.m., a non-refundable reservation deposit equal to the first night non-discounted rate plus tax applies, and cancellations result in the loss of the reservation deposit. Campsites are limited to 14 rental nights within a 30-day period, occupancy is capped at eight people, and camping units may consist of no more than two structures: one RV and one tent or two tents.
Book Lake Chicot online through the Arkansas State Parks reservation site or by phone. Book Isle Of Capri Casino RV Park in Lula through the casino desk at Isle Casino Hotel Lula.
What to expect
Expect a small-town, rural experience. Gillett itself has limited services: a few restaurants, a couple of gas stations, and no big-box grocery. Stock up in Stuttgart, Dumas, or DeWitt before arriving. Cell coverage is generally usable on major roads but can drop in the river bottoms.
Lake Chicot's campground features campsites set in a scenic pecan grove with a range of accommodations, from Class AAA sites with water, 50-amp electric, and sewer hookups to more basic sites. A park store provides supplies, bait, and fuel, and the campground includes modern restrooms open year-round and a seasonal swimming pool available on weekends. Private parks near Gillett are smaller and more utilitarian, with gravel pads, full or partial hookups, and few frills.
Terrain is flat, so leveling is easy. Bring insect repellent, a weather radio, and fishing gear.
