Campgrounds and RV parks near Highland, AR

Highland sits in Sharp County in the Ozark foothills of northern Arkansas, a few miles from the Spring River and the town of Hardy. Hardy straddles Sharp and Fulton counties along the banks of the Spring River in the Ozark foothills, with a tourism economy centered on outdoor recreation and antiques shopping. The area draws RV travelers for float trips, trout fishing, and access to cool, spring-fed water during hot Arkansas summers. Most camping options near Highland are privately owned river resorts rather than federal or state parks. Many Islands Camp and Canoe Rental, Hardy RV Park, Spring River Oak Campground, Southfork Resort, and Southfork Canoe Resort all cluster along the Spring River and its South Fork within a short drive of town. Sites range from full-hookup RV pads to primitive tent areas, and several operators also rent canoes, rafts, kayaks, and tubes for on-site launches. Mammoth Spring State Park, roughly a half hour north, is anchored by one of the world's largest springs, forming a 10-acre lake and flowing into the Spring River. The park adds a public day-use recreation option to the mix of private campgrounds in the region.

Campgrounds around Highland are almost all privately operated, so reservations are made directly with each resort by phone or through its own website rather than through Recreation.gov or the Arkansas State Parks system. Many Islands Camp and Canoe Rental, Hardy RV Park, Spring River Oak Campground, Southfork Resort, and Southfork Canoe Resort each set their own deposit, cancellation, and check-in rules. For summer weekends and holidays, riverside sites often fill weeks or months in advance, particularly sites closest to the water and float launches. Booking early also secures shuttle spots for canoes, rafts, and tubes, which are usually bundled with the campsite reservation. Travelers looking for public-land alternatives generally need to expand the search radius to Ozark National Forest or Corps of Engineers lakes.
