Campgrounds near Huntsville, Arkansas
Huntsville sits in Madison County in the Arkansas Ozarks, roughly 30 miles east of Fayetteville and within an easy drive of Eureka Springs, the Kings River, and War Eagle Creek. The area suits RV travelers looking for a quieter Ozark base than the busier Buffalo National River corridor, with a mix of state-park camping, small private RV parks, and river-access properties.
The closest developed campground is Withrow Springs State Park, which features 29 Class AAA and 10 walk-in campsites along War Eagle Creek just north of town. Small private options in the surrounding hills include Happy Camper RV Park, Kings River Hitchin’ Post RV and Campground, and Kecks Creek Crossing, all convenient for float trips and fishing.
About 45 minutes north near Eureka Springs, Turpentine Creek RV Wildlife Refuge offers a distinctive stay on the grounds of a nonprofit big-cat sanctuary. Together these campgrounds cover the main use cases for the area: hookups near the river, quiet ranch-style sites, and destination stays tied to Ozark attractions.
Things to do near Huntsville
Paddling and fishing dominate the outdoor calendar. The Kings River runs directly past Kings River Hitchin’ Post RV and Campground, with easy put-ins for canoes, kayaks, and tubes. War Eagle Creek at Withrow Springs is a Class I stream, typically floatable from March to mid-June depending on rainfall. Anglers target smallmouth bass and catfish in War Eagle Creek, and rainbow trout are stocked seasonally in the park pond.
Withrow Springs State Park also has three hiking trails, plus tennis courts, ball fields, picnic areas, a pavilion, and a gift shop. Families staying at Turpentine Creek RV Wildlife Refuge can walk the sanctuary grounds and view rescued tigers, lions, and leopards. Day trips reach Eureka Springs, Beaver Lake, and the Buffalo National River, all within roughly an hour.

Spring is the marquee season. The best time to visit Withrow Springs State Park is from March to mid-June when the creek is typically floatable, and wildflowers, including the rare Ozark trillium, peak in April and May. Expect frequent thunderstorms and one of the wettest stretches of the year, with May often the rainiest month.
Summer brings hot, humid weather, with July averaging highs near 88°F and heat indices commonly reaching triple digits in the afternoons. Campgrounds fill on weekends and holidays, and reservations are strongly recommended. Fall delivers cooler nights, lower humidity, and Ozark foliage that generally peaks in late October, making it another prime window for RVers.
Winter is the quiet season. Some private parks reduce services or amenities, and at Turpentine Creek septic hook-up is not available and there is no dumping station on the property, so cold-weather planning matters more here than at full-service parks. State-park sites at Withrow Springs remain open through the winter with reduced visitor-center staffing.

Scott was great to work with and adjusted our last minute add on date. Very communicative and would recommend booking with him again. RV was great, well maintained, clean and perfect for our family too getaway for vacation. Would definitely book him again in the future!

We stayed over Memorial Day weekend with our family and had the BEST experience! We rented an RV for 3 adults and 3 kids, and it was the perfect size with plenty of room for everyone. Everything was super clean and fully stocked — pillows, bedding, and honestly anything you could possibly need was included. But our absolute favorite part was the outdoor kitchen. I genuinely don’t think we can ever rent an RV again without one now! The griddle was AMAZING and made cooking so easy and fun. We’ve officially become bougie RV campers now. 😂 Could not have asked for a better stay. Highly recommend!

How to book
Withrow Springs State Park uses the Arkansas State Parks reservation system, which handles online bookings for all state parks in the network. Book early, especially for peak season from March to November, to secure a preferred campsite. Weekends and holiday periods fill first.
Private campgrounds in the Huntsville area are typically booked directly with the operator. Kings River Hitchin’ Post RV and Campground takes reservations by phone, and Happy Camper RV Park and Kecks Creek Crossing operate similarly with small site counts, so calling ahead is the fastest route to a confirmed spot.
Turpentine Creek RV Wildlife Refuge takes bookings directly through the refuge, which supports its animal-rescue mission, and the RV park has a small number of sites so preferred dates go quickly.
What to expect on site
Sites in this part of the Ozarks tend to be wooded and shaded, with gravel or grass pads and rolling terrain. Withrow Springs State Park offers 29 RV sites with water and electric hookups on level, shaded sites, plus 10 walk-in tent camping sites with new tent pads reached by a paved sidewalk, and a dump station is available in the park.
Private parks in the area lean small and low-density, with only a handful of pads at Kings River Hitchin’ Post, Kecks Creek Crossing, and Happy Camper RV Park. Calling ahead is the best way to confirm pad size, hookups, and river access.
Stays at Turpentine Creek are unusual by RV-park standards. Sites include Wi-Fi, water, and electric hookup with 20, 30, and 50 Amp outlets, a small fire pit, and a picnic table, but septic hook-up is not currently available and there is no dumping station on the property, though there are two places in Eureka Springs where waste can be dumped. Due to fire hazards, no grills or portable heaters are allowed. Cell coverage across the region is patchy; download maps before arrival.

That means no white-knuckling a 30-foot motorhome through the curvy Boston Mountain grades on your first day. Filter listings using the Delivery filter to see which hosts offer it, and check the delivery fee, which usually scales with distance. Fall (mid-September to early November) is the local favorite: crisp 60 to 75 degree days, low humidity, and brilliant Ozark color along Highway 23. Summer is warm and humid with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s, perfect for Beaver Lake swimming. weather.gov/tsa/I've never driven an RV before. Is renting in Huntsville beginner-friendly?
You've got this, first time renting an RV in Huntsville is genuinely doable, and Ozark roads have plenty of gentler stretches to build your confidence. Every RVezy booking includes a hands-on walkthrough at pickup where your host shows you how to operate the generator, slide-outs, water systems, and dump valves. You're never left to figure it out alone. For beginners, travel trailers and Class C motorhomes are easiest to handle, and starting with a flatter route like Highway 412 east toward Huntsville town center is friendlier than tackling the curvy southern stretch of Highway 23 to Ozark on day one. Pro tip: choose a host who offers delivery to Withrow Springs State Park so your very first miles behind the wheel happen after you've settled in.
ardot.gov/maps/What happens if my RV breaks down during my trip?
Take a deep breath: you're covered. Every RVezy rental in Huntsville includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the standard protection plan, so if you blow a tire on Highway 23, run out of fuel near Hobbs State Park, or have a battery issue at War Eagle Creek, help is one phone call away around the clock. Your host is also your direct lifeline for vehicle-specific questions, and the RVezy support team is reachable before, during, and after your trip. Madison County has reliable cell coverage along Highway 412 and around Huntsville town, though signal can fade in deep Ozark hollows. Pro tip: save the roadside number and your host's phone number to your contacts before you leave the driveway.

Cross-border travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental. Travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the specific host and protection plan, so message the host directly through the listing if a longer northern trip is on your mind. Gas prices in Madison County tend to track slightly below the national average, with the most reliable fill-ups in Huntsville town, Berryville, and Springdale before heading into less-populated stretches. For a typical 4-day, 300-mile Ozark loop in a Class C, plan on roughly $120 to $180 in fuel. reserve.arkansasstateparks.com/withrow-springs/campingWhat are the driving conditions like around Huntsville?
Driving in and around Huntsville is part of the adventure, just know what you're getting into. The town sits in the Boston Mountains of the Ozarks at around 1,500 feet, so expect winding two-lane highways with 20 to 25 mph curves and steady up-and-down grades, especially on Highway 23 south (the famous "Pig Trail") and Highway 16. Highway 412 east-west through Huntsville is the easiest corridor for larger rigs. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk, occasional logging trucks, and summer thunderstorms that move quickly. Winter ice is rare but possible from December through February. Pro tip: if you're driving a Class A or large fifth wheel, take Highway 412 to I-49 rather than the southern stretch of Highway 23, your transmission will thank you.

The nearest reliable dump stations and freshwater fills for boondockers are at Withrow Springs (open to non-campers for a small fee) and most private parks along Highway 412. Pro tip: top off your fresh water tank and dump before leaving Withrow Springs, the next equally convenient station is over an hour away in Eureka Springs or Springdale.

Many motorhome rentals in Huntsville also include a generator, outdoor speakers, a TV, and a Wi-Fi hotspot, though cell signal can fade in deeper hollows. Each RVezy listing spells out exactly what's included and what's available as an add-on. Pro tip: filter for "generator included" if you plan to camp at Hobbs State Park's off-grid sites.
arkansasstateparks.com/articles/camping-arkansas-state-parksWhat add-ons and pickup options can I expect from Huntsville hosts?
RVezy hosts in Huntsville offer a flexible menu of add-ons to customize your trip. Popular options include linen and towel kits, kitchen packages, outdoor chairs and tables, propane fire pits (great for fire-restricted days), bike racks, generators, and stocked toolkits. Pickup is usually at the host's location in or near Huntsville, while delivery to Withrow Springs State Park, Beaver Lake marinas, or your private property is widely available. Mileage policies vary by listing: some offer unlimited miles, others include 100 to 150 free miles per day with a small per-mile fee after that. Every detail is shown on the listing before you book. Pro tip: ask about a propane refill add-on so you don't waste a half-day hunting for a fill station in Madison County.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Huntsville%2C%20ArkansasHow does payment and the security deposit work for a Huntsville RV rental?
Payment on RVezy is refreshingly straightforward. You pay securely through the RVezy platform when you book, never directly to the host in cash, which protects both sides. A security deposit is placed as a temporary authorization (a hold, not a charge) on your credit card a few days before your trip starts, and it is released after your trip ends assuming the RV is returned in the condition it left. Security deposits are separate from your booking payment, and the deposit amount is shown clearly on the listing before you book. Pro tip: take date-stamped photos and a quick walk-around video at pickup and drop-off, it is the single best way to keep your full deposit and avoid any back-and-forth after your Ozark trip wraps up.
