Campgrounds near Lamar, Arkansas
Lamar sits along Interstate 40 in the Arkansas River Valley, between the Ozark National Forest to the north and the Ouachita Mountains to the south. The town works well as a base for RV travelers exploring west-central Arkansas, with Russellville about fifteen minutes east and Clarksville a similar distance west. Most nearby camping is clustered around Lake Dardanelle and the ridgelines that rise from the river valley.
Mission RV Park is the closest private option and offers a straightforward stopover for travelers moving along I-40. For lakefront state park camping, Russellville - Lake Dardanelle State Park sits on a 34,300-acre reservoir on the Arkansas River and provides Class AAA, AA, and B sites. Mount Nebo State Park rises 1,350 feet above the Arkansas River valley about a half hour south and offers Class B sites with water and 30-amp electric, plus hike-in tent sites.
Smaller options such as Mack's Pines round out the area, and Xtreme Paintball and Laser Tag Eclipse Park adds a family activity within easy driving range.
Things to do near Lamar
Water recreation drives most trips to this stretch of the Arkansas River Valley. Lake Dardanelle is a 34,300-acre reservoir on the Arkansas River, and the Russellville side has a Sport Fishing Weigh-in Pavilion, a fishing pier, a swimming beach, a boardwalk, and a visitor center with five aquariums. A marina with boat and kayak rentals makes day trips easy for families without their own gear.
Mount Nebo State Park has seven trails providing more than 14 miles of hiking, plus a mountain-biking network, Civilian Conservation Corps stonework, and hang-gliding launch points along the rim. The 3.5-mile Rim Trail leads to panoramic views of the river valley.
For a rainy-day option or a family break from the outdoors, Xtreme Paintball and Laser Tag Eclipse Park provides an active alternative close to Lamar.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lamar%2C%20ArkansasDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Lamar, Arkansas?
Good news for first-time renters: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Lamar for virtually every rig on RVezy. Arkansas only requires a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) over 26,000 pounds, and almost all Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, travel trailers, and fifth wheels fall well below that threshold. You'll need to be 25 or older to book, and RVezy verifies your ID directly through the platform during checkout. If you're visiting from outside the U.S., bring an International Driving Permit from your home auto association. Then point your wheels toward the Ozarks and go.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection and roadside assistance come with my Lamar RV rental?
You're covered from the moment you hit the road. Every RV rental in Lamar booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so help is just a phone call away if you get a flat on Interstate 40 or need a jump start at Piney Bay Campground. During checkout, you choose your protection level, which covers most physical damage to the RV during your trip. This isn't traditional auto insurance, but it's real financial protection that handles the situations renters worry about most. Combine that with a host walkthrough at pickup and you've got a safety net that makes first-time RV camping Lamar style genuinely stress-free.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Lamar RV rental?
Booking is genuinely low-risk. RVezy (not individual hosts) sets the cancellation policy for every Lamar RV rental, and there's a money-back grace period right after booking so you can lock in dates with confidence. Refund eligibility after that depends on how far out you cancel and the circumstances, including weather events like the severe thunderstorms that can sweep across the Arkansas River Valley in spring. If a tornado watch or flash flooding forces a change of plans, contact RVezy support and they'll walk you through the options. The full policy details live on the RVezy Help Center, but the takeaway is simple: book today, sort the details if life happens.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Lamar?
Absolutely, plenty of hosts welcome four-legged co-pilots. On RVezy, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter to see every pet-friendly RV rental Lamar has available, then message the host to confirm any size or breed notes. Once you're rolling, the Lamar area is genuinely dog-friendly: Lake Dardanelle State Park allows leashed pets at campsites and on hiking trails, Piney Bay Campground on the Ozark side welcomes dogs, and the wide-open shoreline at Spadra Park gives pups room to sniff and splash. Pack a tie-out, plenty of water for hot Arkansas afternoons, and proof of current vaccinations. Pro tip: early-morning walks along the Bona Dea Trails in nearby Russellville are paradise for dogs.
arkansasstateparks.com/parks/lake-dardanelle-state-parkCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Lamar?
Yes, RV delivery Lamar is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially for first-timers. Many hosts on RVezy will deliver your rig straight to Lake Dardanelle State Park, Piney Bay, Spadra Park, or even a private property near Lamar, then set up the awning, level the rig, connect water and power, and walk you through every system. Use the Delivery filter when you search, or message a host directly to ask about delivery to your chosen campground. Delivery fees vary by distance from the host's home base, but for travelers flying into Little Rock or Fort Smith and driving up to the Ozarks, it's a game-changer. Show up, unpack, and you're camping.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lamar%2C%20ArkansasHow far can I drive on a Lamar RV trip, and is unlimited mileage available?
You've got serious road-trip range from Lamar. Most RVezy hosts include a daily mileage allowance (commonly 100 to 150 free miles per day), and some offer an RV rental with unlimited mileage as an add-on or built-in perk, so check the listing details or message the host. From Lamar, you're roughly 90 miles from Little Rock, 130 miles to Hot Springs National Park, 75 miles to Fort Smith, 35 miles to Mount Magazine (the highest point in Arkansas), and about 170 miles to Branson, Missouri. If you're planning to loop through the Ozark National Forest and back, estimate your daily miles up front and pick a rig whose mileage policy matches. Pro tip: extra-mile packages bought before the trip almost always beat the per-mile overage rate.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lamar%2C%20ArkansasWhere are the best campgrounds near Lamar for an RV trip?
You're surrounded by some of the best campgrounds near Lamar in the entire Arkansas River Valley. Lake Dardanelle State Park (about 25 miles southeast) offers full hookups with 50-amp service and lake views. Piney Bay Campground on Lake Dardanelle (around 15 miles south) is a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers favorite with water and electric sites. Spadra Park in Clarksville (about 8 miles west) sits on the Arkansas River with a marina and boat ramp. Shoal Bay and Cane Creek round out the local lineup with quieter, wooded sites. Reserve state park sites at arkansasstateparks.com and Corps sites at recreation.gov. Pro tip: book 2 to 3 months ahead for spring bass tournaments and fall color weekends.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/232662When is the best time to visit Lamar in an RV?
Lamar is a three-season RV paradise. The sweet spots are mid-March through May (highs in the 60s to upper 70s, dogwoods and redbuds blooming across the Ozarks) and mid-September through early November (mild 70s, fewer bugs, jaw-dropping fall color along Highway 7). Summers from June through August are hot and humid with highs near 90 and heat index pushing past 100, so look for an RV with strong air conditioning if you're booking peak season. Winters are mild with highs in the upper 40s to low 50s, and many local campgrounds stay open year-round, making December and January great for budget travelers. Pro tip: October on the Pig Trail Scenic Byway is unforgettable.
weather.gov/lzk/I've never rented an RV before. What should I expect at pickup?
First time renting an RV? You're going to be fine, and your host has your back. At pickup (or delivery), your RVezy host walks you through everything: how to operate the propane stove and fridge, how to dump waste tanks, how to connect to shore power, where the breakers are, and how the slide-outs and awning work. Most walkthroughs run 30 to 60 minutes, and hosts encourage questions and even videos so you can refer back later. You're never alone out there: message your host any time during the trip and tap RVezy's 24/7 support if something feels off. Pro tip: ask your host to demo the leveling process so your first night at Lake Dardanelle goes smoothly.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if I break down during my Lamar RV trip?
You're covered, day or night. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so if you get a flat on Interstate 40, run out of fuel near Ozark, or have battery trouble at Piney Bay, one phone call dispatches help. For mechanical issues with the rig itself, your host is your first contact: they know their RV best and can troubleshoot anything from a finicky water pump to a stuck slide-out. RVezy's support team is also available to jump in if needed. Pro tip: save your host's number and the RVezy roadside number in your phone before you leave the driveway. Cell coverage in the Ozark National Forest can be spotty.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Lamar RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Interstate travel is totally fine. From Lamar you can easily hop into Missouri (Branson is about 170 miles north), Oklahoma (Tulsa is roughly 200 miles west), Texas, Tennessee, or Louisiana on the same standard protection coverage. Cross-border travel into Canada depends on the host and their policy, so message the host directly before booking if Canada is on your itinerary. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because coverage doesn't extend south of the border. Popular RV road trip from Lamar routes include the Talimena Scenic Drive into Oklahoma and a Memphis loop east on I-40. Pro tip: confirm any out-of-state plans in writing through the RVezy message thread.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Lamar RV trip?
Fuel is one of the bigger trip costs, but it's manageable with a little planning. Expect 8 to 10 miles per gallon (MPG) for Class A motorhomes, 10 to 14 MPG for Class C, and 16 to 20 MPG for Class B campervans or for your tow vehicle pulling a travel trailer. Arkansas typically has some of the lowest gas prices in the country, and the Murphy USA and Love's Travel Stop right off Interstate 40 in Lamar are convenient fuel-ups. For a 300-mile weekend loop through Mount Magazine and back, plan on roughly $80 to $150 in fuel depending on rig size and current prices. Pro tip: GasBuddy works well in this stretch of I-40 to find the cheapest pumps.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Lamar?
Easier than you might think. For Arkansas state parks like Lake Dardanelle and Mount Nebo, reservations open up to 13 months in advance through arkansasstateparks.com, and prime summer holiday weekends fill up 3 to 6 months out. For U.S. Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds like Piney Bay, Spadra, and Shoal Bay, book through recreation.gov, where sites can be reserved up to 6 months ahead. For weekday and shoulder-season trips, 2 to 4 weeks of notice is often plenty. If you strike out, private RV parks in the Lamar area usually have same-week availability. Pro tip: set up a free Recreation.gov alert for cancellations. Spots open up constantly, especially on Sunday nights.
recreation.gov/What are driving conditions like around Lamar?
Driving an RV in and around Lamar is refreshingly easy. Interstate 40 runs right through town with wide lanes, generous shoulders, and gentle grades, making it ideal for first-timers. The roads get more scenic (and curvier) when you head north into the Ozark National Forest on Highway 21 or south on Highway 7 toward Hot Springs, where you'll encounter switchbacks, steeper grades, and stunning overlooks. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk, sudden spring thunderstorms with heavy rain on I-40, and the occasional ice event in January or February. Avoid the steepest unpaved Forest Service roads in larger rigs. Pro tip: download offline Google Maps before you leave Lamar. Cell service drops out fast in the hollows.
idrivearkansas.com/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Lamar?
Local campgrounds are well-equipped for a comfortable Lamar RV trip. Lake Dardanelle State Park offers Class AAA full-hookup sites (water, sewer, 30/50-amp electric), hot showers, flush toilets, an RV dump station, potable water fill, and a marina. Piney Bay and Spadra (both Corps of Engineers parks) provide water and electric hookups, dump stations, and clean bathhouses. Private spots near I-40 feature 50-amp service and full hookups for pull-throughs. Most campgrounds in the area allow campfires (with seasonal burn bans posted) and sell firewood on-site. Cellular coverage is generally good lakeside, but Wi-Fi is hit-or-miss. Pro tip: top off your fresh water tank before leaving the campground. Boondocking spots in the Ozark National Forest don't have fill stations.
arkansasstateparks.com/parks/lake-dardanelle-state-parkWhat's included inside a typical Lamar RV rental?
You'll be surprised how move-in ready these rigs are. A typical motorhome rental Lamar listing on RVezy comes with a full kitchen (fridge, freezer, propane stove, microwave, sink, cookware, plates, utensils), a bathroom with toilet and shower, sleeping for 2 to 8 depending on size, heat and air conditioning, a dinette, and roof or window-mounted AC. Many rigs include a TV, a generator for boondocking, propane already filled, and seatbelts for every traveling passenger. Wi-Fi isn't universal, but a cell hotspot works well across most of the Arkansas River Valley. Linens and kitchen kits are often add-ons listed by the host. Pro tip: review the listing's amenity checklist closely and message the host with any must-haves before you book.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lamar%2C%20ArkansasWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Hosts make it easy to customize your campervan rental Lamar or motorhome experience. Common add-ons (each priced by the host) include camping chairs and tables, generator use, propane refills, bedding and towel packages, kitchen kits, bike racks, extra mileage bundles, and pet cleaning fees. Pickup is typically at the host's home base in or near Lamar, with most hosts offering a 30 to 60-minute walkthrough on arrival. Many also offer delivery to Lake Dardanelle, Piney Bay, or Spadra Park for a flat fee based on distance. Standard return time is late morning to allow cleaning, but flexible windows are often negotiable. Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a bedding package and treat your first RV trip more like a cabin rental on wheels.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lamar%2C%20ArkansasHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and secure. When you book your RV rental in Lamar, AR, you pay through RVezy's platform using a credit or debit card. No cash, checks, or off-platform payments, which protects both you and the host. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) as a pre-authorization or charge close to your trip, then released back to your card a few days after return, assuming no damage or extra cleaning is needed. To avoid issues, take date-stamped photos and a quick walk-around video at pickup and dropoff, return the rig with the agreed-upon fuel and propane levels, and dump the tanks if your host requires it. Pro tip: keep all messages inside the RVezy app so you're protected end-to-end.
