Campgrounds near Mulberry, Arkansas
Mulberry sits along Interstate 40 in Crawford County, roughly midway between Fort Smith and the Ozark National Forest. The city is part of the Fort Smith, Arkansas-Oklahoma Metropolitan Statistical Area, which makes it a practical staging point for RV trips into the Boston Mountains, the Arkansas River Valley, and the Mulberry River corridor.
RV options near town are a mix of small private parks and a full-service state park. Eagle Crest Golf & RV Park, Pathfinder RV Resort, Crabtree RV Park, and Dan's Riverview RV Park cover the private side, with hookup sites suited to overnight travelers and longer stays. For a public-land option with a lake and hiking access, Lake Fort Smith State Park sits on the banks of Lake Fort Smith in the Boston Mountain Valley of the Ozarks, offering camping, fishing, kayaking, hiking, and mountain biking, with a 1,400-acre reservoir at its center.
From Mulberry, drivers can reach the state park in under 40 minutes and the Mulberry River float sections in the Ozark National Forest in about the same time.
Things to do around Mulberry
The Mulberry River corridor in the Ozark National Forest is the area's main draw for paddlers, with seasonal floating for canoes and kayaks and forest-service campgrounds along the river. Lake Fort Smith adds flatwater recreation to the mix. Lake activities include fishing for bass, catfish, and bream, with a marina offering boat rentals for those without their own watercraft.
Hikers have direct access to a long-distance trail from the state park. For backpackers, it is the western terminus of the 240-mile Ozark Highlands Trail. Day-use options include shorter loop trails, a seasonal swimming pool that operates from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and interpretive programs run by park staff.
Fort Smith, about 30 minutes southwest, adds museums, dining, and grocery resupply for RVers on longer trips.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV camping in the Mulberry area. Spring brings green hardwoods, wildflowers, and reliable water for floating the Mulberry River, but it is also the wettest stretch of the year. Fort Smith experiences a humid subtropical climate with very large seasonal temperature contrasts; summers are hot, winters are cold, and the area is fairly wet, with spring being the wettest season and occasional snowfall occurring in winter.
Summer is hot and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms common. Shaded sites, electric hookups for air conditioning, and lake or river access matter more than scenery in July and August. Fall cools quickly through October and delivers Ozark hardwood color, usually peaking in late October and early November.
Winter camping remains an option at the state park. The visitor center and campground are open year-round, along with two heated hot shower houses available for campers to use, and a dump station is available on-site.

How to book
Lake Fort Smith State Park uses the statewide Arkansas State Parks reservation system. Camping reservations at Arkansas state parks can be made online, over the phone, or at a park's visitor center up to one year in advance. Weekend reservations require a minimum of two nights, and holiday weekends require three nights.
The park offers 30 campsites (20 Class AAA and 10 Class B), 10 cabins, a swimming pool, marina with boat rentals, pavilion, picnic sites, and group facilities including a dining hall and two group lodges with full-size kitchens. With that small footprint, weekends from April through October fill early.
Private parks around Mulberry, including Eagle Crest Golf & RV Park, Pathfinder RV Resort, Crabtree RV Park, and Dan's Riverview RV Park, book directly with the operator by phone or through their websites. Reserving one or two weeks ahead is generally enough outside of holiday weekends.
What to expect
Sites near Mulberry range from level, full-hookup pads at private parks to lakeside sites at the state park. At Lake Fort Smith, sites are carved into the mountainside using retaining walls, creating multiple levels on most camping spots.
Hookup mix varies by site class. Loop A has 20 Class AAA sites with full hookups (water, sewer, and 50-amp electric) positioned closest to the lakeshore, and Loop B has 10 Class B sites offering water and 30-amp electric. Cell coverage in the Boston Mountains can be spotty, so download maps before leaving Mulberry.
Pets are generally welcome outdoors at the state park. Pets are not permitted in public buildings, swimming pools, beaches, or lodges or cabins unless specified as dog-friendly.

Pro tip: practice in an empty parking lot (the lot at the Mulberry Pilot Travel Center off I-40 is huge and quiet on weekday mornings) for 20 minutes before heading to your campsite.

Many guests build loops through the Ozarks into Branson or down to Hot Springs National Park without any extra paperwork. help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Mulberry RV trip?
Fuel is one of your bigger trip costs, but Arkansas helps you out with some of the cheapest gas prices in the country, typically 20 to 40 cents per gallon below the national average. Class C motorhomes usually average 8 to 10 miles per gallon, Class B campervans get 16 to 20 mpg, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (figure 10 to 14 mpg). For a 300-mile weekend loop through the Ozarks, budget roughly $80 to $130 in fuel for a Class C. Pro tip: the Love's Travel Stop and Pilot at the Mulberry I-40 exits typically have the best diesel and gas prices in the area, plus easy pull-through access for big rigs.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book campgrounds near Mulberry?
For the best sites, plan ahead: federal campgrounds like Vine Prairie and Cove Lake open reservations 6 months in advance on Recreation.gov, while Arkansas State Parks (including Lake Fort Smith) accept bookings up to 13 months out at ArkansasStateParks.com. For peak weekends in April through October, especially around the Mulberry River paddling season and fall foliage in late October, lock in your site at least 6 to 8 weeks ahead. Weekday and shoulder-season trips are much more flexible, often with same-week availability. Pro tip: if your top pick is full, set up an alert on Recreation.gov; cancellations happen often and the site notifies you instantly so you can grab a freed-up spot.
recreation.gov/What are driving conditions like around Mulberry, AR?
Driving around Mulberry is refreshingly easy for an RV. Interstate 40 runs right past town with wide lanes, gentle grades, and plenty of truck-friendly exits. Highway 64 is a scenic, low-stress alternative paralleling I-40. If you venture north on Highway 23 (the famous Pig Trail Scenic Byway) into the Ozark National Forest, expect tight curves and steeper grades, so take it slow and use lower gears on descents. Watch for occasional fog in the river valley on cool mornings, and summer thunderstorms can pop up quickly in the afternoon. Pro tip: avoid driving Highway 23 north of Cass after dark, when deer activity is highest and the curves get tricky.

arkansas.com/articles/explore-mulberry-river-arkansas-paddlers-paradiseHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and secure: when you book your campervan rental Mulberry or any RV through RVezy, you pay through the platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host. A security deposit is held as a separate authorization (not a charge) and is released after your trip ends, assuming no damage or policy violations. To avoid any deposit issues, take time-stamped photos of the RV at pickup and drop-off, return it with the same fuel level, and dump the tanks if your host requires it. Pro tip: read the host's house rules carefully (especially mileage and generator hours) so your trip ends with a clean slate.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksAre RVs available year-round in Mulberry, including winter?
Yes, you can rent an RV in Mulberry, AR all year, and winter is a quietly wonderful time to explore the Ozarks. Daytime highs in December through February typically range from 48 to 58 degrees Fahrenheit, with cold but rarely brutal nights, so most RVs handle the season comfortably. Many hosts equip their rigs with heated holding tanks, propane furnaces, and shore-power-ready electric heaters to keep you toasty. Lake Fort Smith State Park stays open year-round with full hookups, and you'll often have campgrounds nearly to yourself. Pro tip: message the host to confirm winterization status and ask about cold-weather prep like skirting or tank heaters before booking a January or February trip.
