Campgrounds and RV parks near Quitman, AR

Water activities dominate the summer schedule. Lake Bennett inside Woolly Hollow State Park is a no-wake lake open to kayaking, canoeing, pedal boating, and fishing, with a lifeguarded swimming beach in season. Greers Ferry Lake, a short drive northeast, adds larger open water for boating and striper fishing. On land, Woolly Hollow has hiking trails plus the 9.4-mile Enders Fault mountain bike route, which includes a North Loop and South Loop each running about five miles. History-minded families can visit the Woolly Cabin, the preserved log home of the area's first settlers. Off-park options include tubing and trout fishing on the Little Red River below Greers Ferry Dam, and day trips into Conway for supplies, laundromats, and restaurants.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel in this part of Arkansas. Daytime highs are mild, humidity is lower than in summer, and hiking and biking at Woolly Hollow State Park are comfortable. Spring also brings the heaviest rainfall of the year and the state's severe-thunderstorm and tornado season, so travelers should monitor National Weather Service alerts and choose sites with sturdy tie-downs. Summer is peak family season. Highs regularly reach the low 90s with high humidity, and the swimming beach and snack bar at Woolly Hollow operate seasonally, generally from late spring through early fall. Weekends and holidays book out well in advance. Winters are short and generally cool rather than harsh. The state park stays open year-round, but the visitor center runs reduced weekend hours from December through February and the swim beach is closed. Occasional ice storms and cold snaps can affect water hookups, so winterizing precautions matter.

At Woolly Hollow State Park, the campground has 30 Class AAA sites with water, sewer, and 50-amp electric on paved, level pads that accommodate rigs up to 60 feet, plus 10 tent-only sites without hookups. A central bathhouse provides hot showers and flush toilets, and a dump station is located near site 21. Sites include picnic tables and fire rings, and leashed pets are allowed. Private parks near Quitman vary in amenities. Expect gravel pads, standard 30/50-amp hookups, and simple bathhouses at most locations, with cabins available at some. Cell coverage in the hills can be spotty, so download maps and reservation confirmations before arrival. Ticks and venomous snakes, including copperheads and water moccasins, are present in the region, so check for ticks after hikes and watch footing near water.
