Roland camping overview
Roland sits in western Pulaski County, Arkansas, just off Highway 10 and a short drive west of Little Rock. The town is best known as the address for Pinnacle Mountain State Park at 11901 Pinnacle Valley Road, which anchors the area's outdoor recreation but is day-use only. Pinnacle Mountain stands as the centerpiece of this geographically diverse state park just west of the state capital, offering outdoor adventures on the Maumelle and Little Maumelle Rivers, in the Arkansas Arboretum, and along over 33 miles of trails including nearly 19 miles of mountain bike routes.
Because camping is not available at Pinnacle Mountain State Park, RV travelers base themselves at private parks and a nearby Army Corps of Engineers campground. Options within a short drive include Forest Lake Estates Motorhome Complex, Little Rock North/Jct I-40 KOA Journey, Hilltop RV Resort, Cedar Hill Village, and Oak Forest Village Mobile Home Park.
The primary public RV option is Maumelle Park, located a few miles east on Pinnacle Valley Road, a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers park on the Arkansas River featuring 128 campsites with water and electric hookups, bathhouses with hot showers, a dump station, and a boat ramp.
Things to do near Roland
Hiking is the headline activity. Two summit trails climb Pinnacle Mountain, which rises just over 1,000 feet above the Arkansas River and is one of seven peaks of the Ouachita Mountains within the 2,069-acre park. Mountain bikers use the park's Monument Trails system, with roughly 19 miles of purpose-built single track spread across the east and west sides of the mountain.
Paddlers launch on the Little Maumelle River from the park's boat ramps, and anglers work the Arkansas River for crappie, bream, and white and hybrid bass. Families can visit the 71-acre Arkansas Arboretum for a short interpretive walk, then head about 20 minutes east into Little Rock for the Little Rock Zoo, the Clinton Presidential Center, and the Big Dam Bridge pedestrian crossing over the Arkansas River.

Spring and fall are the strongest RV seasons around Roland. Fall in particular delivers comfortable temperatures and peak color along the Arkansas River, with leaves peaking in October through early November, making hiking, biking, wildlife viewing, and paddling especially enjoyable. Weekends at Maumelle Park book out well in advance during these shoulder months.
Summer is hot and humid. Highs in the Little Rock area routinely climb into the 90s from June through August, with July averaging around 93 degrees, and afternoon thunderstorms are common, so sites with shade or full-power hookups for running air conditioning are worth targeting.
Winter camping is possible but variable. Maumelle Park operates year-round with electric and water hookups, though cold snaps can bring hard freezes and occasional ice. Spring brings wildflowers on Pinnacle Mountain and higher river flows, along with the region's most active severe weather, including thunderstorms and occasional tornado watches.
