Things to do near West Fork
Devil's Den is the headline draw. The park's hiking, backpacking, mountain bike, and horseback riding trails lead to the surrounding Ozark National Forest. Among the many hiking options are the Yellow Rock Trail, known for its view of Lee Creek Valley, and the Butterfield Hiking Trail, a roughly 15-mile looped backpacking route. Fishing is available on an 8-acre CCC-built lake, with seasonal boat and paddle rentals supporting anglers. Anglers who visit can expect bluegill, channel catfish, crappie, and largemouth bass.
At Lake Fort Smith, paddling and clear-water fishing are the main activities, along with a swimming pool, marina with boat rentals, picnic sites, and group facilities. Backpackers can pick up the Ozark Highlands Trail from the park's western terminus.
Fayetteville itself adds paved bike trails, University of Arkansas events, and easy access to shopping and restaurants for rest-day breaks.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows. Wildflowers, waterfalls, and mild temperatures make March through May popular for hikers and paddlers, while October brings hardwood color across the Boston Mountains. Weekends in these shoulder seasons fill early at state parks and full-hookup RV parks near Fayetteville.
Summer is hot and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms common. The pool at Devil's Den is open in summer only, and the park cafe operates seasonally. University of Arkansas football weekends in the fall drive strong demand at Fayetteville-area RV parks, so book well ahead if a trip overlaps a home game.
Winter camping is possible but pared down. The park and its visitor center are open year-round for camping and day use, though some restrooms and bathhouses are closed during winter. Snow is infrequent but ice storms can occur, and mountain roads in the area may become slick during cold snaps.

We stayed over Memorial Day weekend with our family and had the BEST experience! We rented an RV for 3 adults and 3 kids, and it was the perfect size with plenty of room for everyone. Everything was super clean and fully stocked — pillows, bedding, and honestly anything you could possibly need was included. But our absolute favorite part was the outdoor kitchen. I genuinely don’t think we can ever rent an RV again without one now! The griddle was AMAZING and made cooking so easy and fun. We’ve officially become bougie RV campers now. 😂 Could not have asked for a better stay. Highly recommend!

How to book campgrounds near West Fork
Arkansas State Parks handles reservations for Devil's Den and Lake Fort Smith through a single online system. Reservations can be made up to a year in advance, same-day reservations are available, and weekends require a minimum two-night stay. There is a non-refundable reservation deposit in the amount of the first night non-discounted rate, plus tax.
Check-in time is 3:00 p.m. and check-out time is 3:00 p.m. at state park campgrounds, and campsites are limited to occupancy by eight persons, and camping units may consist of no more than two structures: one RV and one tent, or two tents.
Private parks such as Hog Valley RV and Treehouse Resort, Southgate RV Park of Fayetteville, and The Creeks Golf and RV Resort book directly through their own websites or third-party platforms, with peak-season and event weekends filling first.
What to expect
Terrain around West Fork is genuinely mountainous. Access requires navigating some winding park roads that can challenge larger RVs, particularly the steep grades on the approach into Devil's Den. Check park guidance before towing anything oversized down into Lee Creek Valley.
Site quality varies. Many state-park sites sit on graded terrain with multiple levels, gravel pads, and limited railings, so leveling blocks are useful. Full-hookup private parks near Fayetteville tend to offer more level pads and easier big-rig access, often with 30/50 amp service and pull-through sites.
Expect wooded surroundings, decent cell coverage near Fayetteville and weaker signal inside the state parks, and family-oriented amenities such as pools, playgrounds, and laundry at the larger private resorts.
