The most comfortable camping windows are mid-April through May and mid-September through October, when daytime highs sit in the sixties and seventies and humidity drops. Spring brings green scenery and strong paddling flows on the Buffalo, but it is also the wettest stretch of the year, with April and May typically seeing the most rain and the highest risk of thunderstorms and tornadoes. Summers are hot and humid, with July highs around ninety degrees. The tailwater below Bull Shoals Dam runs cold year-round, generating morning fog even in July and providing relief for anglers. Summer weekends and holidays are peak booking periods, and popular sites at Buffalo Point and Bull Shoals-White River State Park fill early. Fall delivers cooler nights, lower humidity, and Ozark hardwood color through late October. Winter is cold and damp, with occasional snow or ice; some park services scale back, and the Bull Shoals-White River State Park camper registration center is closed December and January.

Private parks around Yellville generally provide water, electric, and sewer hookups, bathhouses, and Wi-Fi at many sites, with a mix of pull-through and back-in pads. River-adjacent campgrounds often have gravel roads, tree cover, and some grade changes; big rigs should confirm pad length and turning access when booking. At Bull Shoals-White River State Park, riverside Class AAA sites have 50-amp electric, water, and sewer, while Class B sites offer 30-amp electric and water. A marina and camp store sell fishing supplies and basic provisions, and a dump station is available. Cell service is spotty in river valleys and canyon stretches of the Buffalo. Stock groceries, ice, and firewood in Yellville or Mountain Home before heading out, and expect wildlife including deer, raccoons, and elk in the Buffalo River corridor.
