Winter nights can fall below freezing, and shoulder-season days in late April and early October often reach 80 to 100°F.

Cell service in town is generally reliable, but coverage drops quickly on park roads and inside the canyons. Carry drinking water for every outing, since water is not available at primitive sites. Borrego Palm Canyon Campground has flush toilets, token-operated hot showers, potable water, and a dump station that closes during summer, while primitive sites such as Yaqui Pass and Yaqui Well offer no facilities. Maximum stay is 30 days per calendar year, and quiet hours run from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Pets are allowed on a six-foot leash in campgrounds and on designated park roads, but not on trails or in the backcountry.
