Campgrounds and RV parks near Mount Shasta, CA

The mountain itself anchors most trips. Bunny Flat and Panther Meadow on the south side are the standard trailheads for day hikes and acclimatization walks, and the Everitt Memorial Highway climbs to roughly 7,900 feet for above-treeline views. Lake Siskiyou has swimming beaches, a paved perimeter trail, kayak and paddleboard rentals, and trout fishing from shore or boat. The Upper Sacramento and McCloud rivers are well-known trout streams, and the McCloud River Falls trail links three waterfalls in a short loop. Castle Crags State Park, about 15 minutes south, has granite-spire hikes and a section of the Pacific Crest Trail. In town, families often visit the Mount Shasta Fish Hatchery, the Sisson Museum, and the headwaters spring at City Park.

Summer is the core RV season. From mid-June through early September, days are warm and dry, lake water is swimmable, and almost every campground, trail, and forest road is open. This is also when sites fill fastest, especially on weekends and around the Fourth of July and Labor Day. Spring is mixed. Lower-elevation parks like Castle Crags and the in-town RV parks reopen as soon as access is clear, but higher Forest Service campgrounds and the Everitt Memorial Highway above Bunny Flat stay buried in snow well into May or June. Expect cold nights and wet weather at lower elevations. Fall brings cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, and generally settled weather through late October. Most private parks stay open year-round, while seasonal Forest Service sites typically close between Labor Day and mid-October. Winter is a snow-sports season. Mt. Shasta Ski Park operates on the mountain's south flank, and several in-town RV parks remain open with winterized hookups, but mountain roads and most public campgrounds are closed.

Elevations around Mount Shasta range from roughly 2,000 feet along the Sacramento River up past 5,000 feet at trailhead campgrounds, so nights run cool even in July. Pack layers and expect dew. Bears are active across the area, and food lockers are provided at state and Forest Service sites; private parks ask that food be kept inside the RV. Cell service is solid in town and patchy along forest roads. Full hookups are standard at the in-town private parks and at Lake Siskiyou Camp Resort. Castle Crags and most Forest Service campgrounds are dry, with potable water spigots and vault or flush toilets but no electric or sewer at the site. Wildfire restrictions can shut down campfires in late summer, so check current fire conditions with Shasta-Trinity National Forest before arrival.
