Campgrounds and RV parks near Seeley, CA

Day trips from Seeley fan out in every direction along Interstate 8. The Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area is roughly 30 to 40 miles east and is the main draw for off-road riders, with side-by-sides and ATVs running across one of the largest dune systems in North America. Anza-Borrego Desert State Park lies northwest of Seeley and offers desert hiking, wildflower viewing in spring, and wildlife watching across California's largest state park. The south end of the Salton Sea is roughly 30 miles north and is known for shoreline birdwatching and fishing. Closer to town, Sunbeam Lake has a small day-use area with shaded picnic tables, and the Imperial Valley Pioneers Museum on Highway 86 highlights local history. Border-town shopping in Calexico is roughly 15 miles south.

The Imperial Valley runs on a snowbird calendar. From roughly November through March, daytime highs are mild and most RV parks near Seeley fill with long-stay winter visitors from colder states and provinces. This is also when off-roading at the dunes peaks: permits are required between October 1 and April 15 annually, with weekly and season options available, and holiday weekends like Thanksgiving and New Year's draw heavy crowds. Spring brings wildflowers in Anza-Borrego, usually from late February into April depending on rainfall, and comfortable hiking temperatures through May. Summer is brutal: July in El Centro is an extremely hot summer month, with an average temperature varying between 83.5°F (28.6°C) and 106.7°F (41.5°C). Many seasonal residents leave, some smaller parks reduce hours, and outdoor activity is limited to early morning. Late summer can bring isolated thunderstorms from the North American monsoon pattern. Fall cools steadily through October and November and signals the start of the next dune-season rush.

Expect flat, sun-exposed terrain near sea level, hard-packed sites, and very little natural shade. Most parks near Seeley are designed around big rigs with full hookups, paved or gravel pads, and 30/50-amp service; tent camping is uncommon in the immediate area. Air conditioning is essential from May through September, and shade awnings or portable canopies help year-round. The area is agricultural, so expect some farm traffic, irrigation odors on certain days, and Border Patrol checkpoints along Interstate 8 west and east of town. Cell coverage is generally reliable on the major carriers near the I-8 corridor and drops off in the dunes and in Anza-Borrego canyons. Wildlife is limited to desert species: jackrabbits, roadrunners, coyotes at night, and the occasional rattlesnake in warm months, so keep pets leashed and check under slides before pulling in.
